For the first time ever, Central Pennsylvania will be host to a Team Sarcoma event whose proceeds will support the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative. The initiative raises funds and support for Sarcoma related cancers and the people affected by them. The bike/walk/run will be held during International Sarcoma Awareness Week and was started in honor of Kevin Edward Boitson, who passed from a rare angiosarcoma in October 2008.

Keepin' it Kevin: Team Sarcoma Bike/Walk/Run will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 17, 2010 starting at the Community Park in East Petersburg, Pennsylvania. There is a $15.00 registration fee for participants 16 years and older. Participants are encouraged to raise funds that will go the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative.

Nearly 20 local businesses have donated financially as well as materials/time to pay for t-shirt printing, support bracelets, banners, design work, food and drink. All of the event costs have been paid for, and all money raised from the participants will be going directly to the LSSI to help provide funds for research and family assistance for those affected by Sarcoma cancers.

There will be two courses available to participants. The first is a paved walking trail that is roughly 1.5 miles and is available to those wishing to walk, those with children, and people with disabilities. Anyone looking for a light run may also choose this option. The second course will be meandering through the streets and some paved trails in East Petersburg and is roughly 5.5 miles in length. Traffic assistance will be provided by the Manheim Township Police Department at major road crossings, and signs will be posted on the streets to let bikers and runners know which way to go.

Drinks such as lemonade, tea, coffee and water will be provided, as well as baked chips and pretzels. The first 75 participants will receive a KIK Sarcoma: Team Sarcoma white t-shirt (sizes vary), and the first 100 participants will receive a 'Sarcoma Knows No Borders' Bracelets created by the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative.

The 'Sarcoma Knows No Borders' slogan was created to symbolize that Sarcoma cancers can occur anywhere and in any form in the body, and do not recognize male from female, age, or geographical location. Unfortunately, Sarcoma can affect anyone at anytime.
