Keeping Your Christmas Tree Alive During the Holidays

Treating Your Fir like One of Your Own

Keeping your Christmas tree alive over the holidays can sometimes be a pain. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a simple yet effective way to keep your tree completely healthy throughout the Christmas season? Fortunately for you, there are easy ways to do just that!

1) Before you even decide to place the Christmas tree into the basin, be sure to cut a new stem for the tree. Apart from cutting the tree yourself, you have no clue how long your tree has been cut down. The longer the tree has been cut down, the more sap that will collect at the end of the tree, causing the bottom to harden. If the bottom is hardened, water cannot get into the tree.

2) Instead of placing cold water in the tree all the time, occasionally place hot water into the basin instead of cold. Hot water will loosen up the sap that has collected on the bottom of the tree and allow the tree to suck up the water.

3) Place your Christmas tree away from sources of heat (fireplace, wood stove, heating vent) because Christmas trees dry up very easily in heat, no matter how much water you give it.

4) Did I mention you need to water it everyday? Neglect is number one cause of Christmas trees dying early. Be sure to take the time to keep the basin full of water - this will aid in keeping your tree vibrant and healthy.

Follow these simple instructions and you will be well on your way to enjoying your Christmas tree long after the holidays have gone!
