Keeping Your Computer in Good Running Condition

Personal computers have become a very important part of our lives, and life without them is hard to imagine. Generally, the life of a computer at our homes is around 2-3 years but that basically depends on how we treat and maintain them.

One of the ways to increase the lives of our computers is by defragging the hard drive, especially that partition which accommodates the operating system. Defragmenting and disk scanning should be done on a regular basis in order to avoid any sort of common dysfunctions. Defragmenting involves the arrangement of all the fragmented files, and bringing them closer to each other. This reduces the load on the operating system when the files are accessed. However, the load from the hard disk is not reduced by this practice.

If you are a regular internet user, there will be numerous files which are stored in your computer while accessing the internet. You will not be using those files once you have closed the website unless the password has been stored. The files which have been stored in your computer are called temporary internet files, also known as the cache. You should make sure that these files are cleaned regularly.

The booting speed of your computer can be slowed down by the use of startup programs. Therefore, make sure those unnecessary programs are not used as startups. If you lack the knowledge of how to remove the startup programs, then search the internet for a helpful guide. It will teach you a few simple steps to remove the startup programs.

On your computer, there are probably certain programs which are not used, or you simply don't require them. These programs can be uninstalled from the control panel so as to have more free space in your computer. There is an icon called add/remove programs in the control panel from which you can click and uninstall these programs. From this place, you can easily remove the unwanted programs and after this removal your computer will surely work faster.

After removing the unwanted programs there will still be some files left on your computer from the original installation. These files will normally be those which had been created by those programs you removed. Since the software has been uninstalled, then the files could not be opened unless you are using the 'open with' option which will run the file with an alternative program.

There are certain applications such as clean sweep that automatically detects unnecessary files and prompt you again and again to delete them. It is much more convenient to use such applications rather than searching manually for unwanted programs and then deleting them. If you are not very sure which files need to be deleted, then you might end up accidentally deleting files that involve your operating system. Therefore, it would be a very good idea to make backups of the important files before running any deleting software on your computer.

Please consider the inputs mentioned in this article to ensure longevity and good performance of your computer.
