Keeping Your Hair "Office Chic"
Advice from Mika Fowler, Creative Director, Gavert Atelier Salon in Beverly Hills
Mika believes that simple, neat hair is the ideal way to go for the office. She suggests that the key to styling your hair for success is keeping it uncomplicated and minimalist. 'Less is more' when it comes to maintaining an executive look.
If you like to wear your hair down, don't allow it to get too long; make sure your ends have a fresh trim. Don't cut in too many layers, as it will make your facial line look messy. Jennifer Aniston's long, fresh layers are a great example of sophistication in an office environment.
If wearing your hair down is not your thing, Mika advises trying your hair in a low ponytail. If you prefer, add a clip for an extra-girly touch. Wearing a half-pony is also a great way to keep your hair office-appropriate. A few "frizzies" in the front are okay, but try keeping them to a minimum. Use sleek products such as Sebastian's Whipped Cream, which helps keep hair smooth and under control.
Follow Mika's 7-day plan:
(See sketches of hairdos here)
Office Hairstyle, Monday
A simple, lower 'ballerina' bun is always good, and a chopstick hair accessory adds a nice touch. This look works well since Monday is an especially strong meeting day.
Office Hairstyle, Tuesday
This is a good day for professional help. Your hairdresser can give you a sleek, executive look before you go to work. Mika advises an 8:00 a.m. standing appointment, if you can afford it. Use potion 9 for heat protection, then a finishing flat-iron so your hair will stay sleek.
Office Hairstyle, Wednesday
Your hair is straight from Tuesday's flat-iron. Today, pull the front half up and secure with a barrette.
Office Hairstyle, Thursday
Make a ponytail and then braid. Milbon #9 wax is a big help in making braids. Leave some fringe at the sides to add softness around your face.
Office Hairstyle, Friday
A soft blow-dry is a good choice for casual Friday.
Saturday Style
Use a 1-1/2 inch curling iron to add curl. Sebastian Shaper Zero Gravity is a perfect lightweight hairspray for curls.
Sunday Style
Use the leftover curl from Saturday for a ponytail. Leave extra fringe in the front for your Sunday style.

Perception and presentation are big things in a corporate environment. These are great tips, thanks for sharing them!
Good ideas for the office crowd. Clean and simple is best no matter where you work, IMO. People stress too much over their hair.
Nice run-down, but Mika seems to forget that the hairdresser gets expensive, time might be an issue before work, etc, etc. Other than that, these are great, simplistic ways to keep your hair stylish and office appropriate.
This reminds me, I badly need a haircut!
Great work on this.
