Keeping Your Laptop Clean

Often through general wear and tear, a notebook screen on your laptop becomes dirty and does not look good. Unlike a regular LCD or computer monitor, it is more difficult to replace a really dirty or damaged LCD notebook screen. Therefore, the best way to make sure you do not have to go on to this step is to regularly clean you your notebook screen. It can easily fill with dust, fingerprints, and be the subject of water and food spills.

It is not best to wipe your LCD screen with a paper towel as this will likely scratch the screen. If you are looking for cheap and cost effective ways to clean your LCD on your notebook here are some ways.

1. Turn of your laptop or computer.

The first thing you should do is power down your computer. When it is on it is more difficult to notice any dirt and spots on the screen. You should also make sure you are in a fairly well lit room.

2. Cotton cloth.

A cotton cloth can help prevent the screen from being scratched as other solutions often do. Perhaps you have a cloth you use to clean your glasses. If you have a handkerchief in the instances of sneezes or dinner spills this can also work as well.

3. Make your own cleaning solution

Instead of buying a cleaning solution which can often cost over 10 dollars, you could instead make your own. Of course if you have the money you should just purchase the cleaning solution at a store or online. However, if you are buying a solution there are some things you should avoid such as ammonia.

Mix deionized water or distilled water with vinegar or 95% alcohol. You do not want to use normal water as this could potentially leave traces of white on your screen, which is not something you want.

Once you have turned off your computer, found a piece of cotton cloth, and made or bought a cleaning solution you are ready to begin. You will want to spray the cleaning solution onto the cloth and NOT onto the laptop's screen. When you are wiping you will want to wipe in the same direction and not all over the place. If there are some streaks of solution left on the screen you can use a dry cloth to dry them up.

Of course there are a few things you should not do when cleaning your screen. You do want to apply too much pressure or touch directly onto the screen. This could break it and just make it more dirty.
