When you take your children to the park, always remember to keep them safe. We all have such hectic schedules that we forget simple things that can keep all of us safe. One example is how well do you know your park and the local residents? Are there hidden areas in the park that the kids can run and hide behind that you don't know about? Do you have any sex offenders living in your neighborhood? (FamilyWatchdog.us is the National Sex Offender Registry.) Knowing who is in your area, and when, is knowledge that will keep all of us safe.
Another great idea when we take our kids to the park is to snap a photo of them prior to letting them free on the playground. We all watch our kids closely, and we know our neighborhood parks are safe, but if an emergency happens and you are separated, a recent photo will help. The photo will show what clothes your child is currently wearing, or how their hair is. How many times has this happened to you: you blink and Little Johnny is no longer on the swings? You scan the playground trying to remember what color sweater he was wearing. Having a quick photo on our phone, since it is already in our hand, pocket or purse, is a great way to keep tabs on our kids. See you at the park!
