Keeping a Peaceful Home

One of the hardest parts of having a home based business is separating work from family. One of the first decisions to make is how much time do you want to spend each day on your business. If you do not decide that you may end up working too much, or not enough.

Setting a schedule may be the easiest way to delegate when you need to do what. If you continue to work part time outside the home consider adding Saturday and Sunday to this schedule. Use a pencil when scheduling in case you need to change times.

If you have tendencies towards working too much, setting a schedule with work time and personal time may help you set the distinction between the two. Set some personal goals for yourself and commit to working on them each week. Make sure that you are getting enough sleep each night. This will help you be more productive during the day. You can even take naps during the day.

If you need to create more time in your day for your business, hire help. Having a maid to help you clean, or a babysitter to watch the kids can add extra time allowing you to get more work done. You can also use technology to your advantage. If you have a computer program to help you keep track of your finances and to do your taxes that can save you time. If you can automate how your bills are paid that can help save you time as well.

In order to keep your business and your personal time separate you need to do a few things. First, tell your family and your friends when your business hours are so that they will not disturb you. You may have to keep repeating it. This is your business. Make sure you have your own separate space to do your work. Plan to take time off. If you know when your slow season is schedule vacations for that time. Take long weekends when you can. Hire help to watch the office, even if it is someone just to answer the phone and schedule appointments.
