Keeping Your Weight Loss Motivation High

K.S.
In the beginning, your weight loss motivation soars. You join the gym all gung-ho. You feel great taking that first step to living a healthier life and are determined that this time you'll stick with it. And for the first couple of weeks, things go according to plan. You lose quite a few pounds and exercise isn't even a burden. But then you grow bored with eating diet food, the excuses pile up, and you simply don't want to exercise.

So how can you keep your weight loss motivation in high gear? How can you keep your New Year's Resolution and not let all those food holidays in the late spring and throughout winter completely derail your goals? Here are 5 great ways to keep your weight loss motivation on the right track...

For the dreaded workout session, get an exercise buddy. When you have a partner, you're automatically more inclined to get it done. You wouldn't want to abandon them, right? You can also walk your dog and use him or her as your partner for a stroll in the park or around the block.

Keep a record of how much you've lost, as well as the trials you've been through and the temptations you've overcome. This serves as high weight loss motivation if you feel yourself going into a slump or facing some of those same challenges you've previously won. Keeping track of your progress oftentimes proves to be the key to success and helps everyone (from the single person to the big international companies) when it comes to achieving a myriad of goals. Your weight loss goal is no different.

Joining a support group and seeing how someone else faces and overcomes the challenges of losing weight provides some essential weight loss motivation. Sometimes you do need a helping hand from someone who's already been there. Having a support group is also like having an exercise partner too, because the people in the group can help you be accountable for your diet and exercise.

Putting a picture of yourself at a lower weight, or of someone whose body type you'd love to have on kitchen door or bathroom mirror, provides very visual weight loss motivation. It's a constant reminder for you to stick to it to reach your goal. You can also hang up an outfit or some piece of clothing (like swimwear) in plain view that you'd love to fit into when you reach your ideal weight.

And lastly (and a favorite among dieters): give yourself a reward after every small success. Rewarding yourself along the way is an important part of weight loss motivation, because sometimes people are too fixated on the big picture and get intimidated at the thought of losing 100 pounds. Then they don't want to even try. Combat that weight loss motivation killer and reward yourself with pampered treatment at the spa, a short vacation, a new outfit or piece of jewelry, and the occasional food treat you've been craving.

Whichever method(s) you choose, make maintaining weight loss motivation an essential part in succeeding in your weight loss journey. Remember that many steps make up a journey. Before you know it, you'll have succeeded in keeping yourself motivated and accomplishing your goal!
