Keira Knightley's Stand Against Hollywood Norm

Refusing to Let Them Airbrush Her Photos

Keira Knightley has recently taken a stand against Hollywood that I think deserves mention, & honors.

It is so rare for anyone in the movie/music/tv industry to stand up to the industry standards, that when Keira Knightley stated that she would not let them air-brush photos of her body for her upcoming movie, "Duchess", to enlarger her breast size--it became the hottest thing in entertainment news.

Keira has had Hollywood trying to change her for a while now. For the movie "King Arthur"(2004), she was quoted as vocalizing her criticism over having her bosom digitally enhanced, & her cup size pushed from an 'A' to a 'C' for the movie posters. "Those things certainly weren't mine," she told Fox.

Of how she looks by the time she reaches news-stands & poster walls, she told People magazine (2007): "Ok, I'm on the cover of a magazine, but somebody else does the hair, & the makeup, & airbrushes the f--- out of me--it's not me, it's something other people have created."

The 23 year old actress, who is famous for her role in such films as the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Pride & Prejudice, & Atonement--as well other varied roles, has been at other times criticized for her body, for being underweight & having an eating disorder. To which she replied that if she could gain weight & have a curvier body, she would, & that she does not have an eating disorder.

In a 2007 Interview with Britain's morning show GMTV she also stated--"I think it would be great in the media if we saw a wider range of women of all ages, of all shapes & sizes."

All one has to do is watch any of the modeling competition shows on reality TV to see the truth behind Keira's situation.
I believe if us common folk saw what our "perfect stars" looked like without the digital enhancements & airbrushing, without all their weaves & lbs of makeup, without them being "something other people have created,"--we would be shocked.

Kudos to Miss Knightley for standing up for being herself, as she was made, & taking an ultimate step in non-conformity in a world that thrives on just that to make its inhabitants "perfect."

Great reporting. I remember reading a report last year about a flap over her Pirates action figure because it had an enhanced bosom. I'm pleased to see her taking a stand. Excellent article!

They can't be happy. The star is either too big or a part of them is too small.
