Keller Williams with Moseley, Droll & Sipe: Live - Review of the 2 CD / 1 DVD Set

John Vann
Keller Williams is probably better known for his solo work as a new age one-man-band, where he plays an array of instruments on stage including a variety of electric and acoustic guitars, a drum pad, bass guitars, a Theremin and more. He belts out a quick beat on each instrument, loops it over his sound machine and then quickly moves onto the next to repeat the process.

But his new project, dubbed Keller Williams and The WMD's has Keller Williams sticking to vocals and guitar (for the most part), and teams him up with some of the musicians he has always dreamt of sharing the stage with. These musicians, who are every bit as talented as Keller and just as fun to watch all have bands of their own; but they've taken time out to tour and even make a two disc live CD and DVD.

The WMD's consists of Keller Williams on lead guitar and vocals, Keith Moseley from The String Cheese Incident on Bass, Gibb Droll on guitar and Jeff Sipe, from the band Aquarium Rescue Unit on drums. Their different styles of musicianship intertwine on stage, complimenting each other perfectly and creating a unique sound for their audience. And their live CD captures this atmosphere quite well.

Spanning two CDs, Keller Williams' latest work includes a total of sixteen tracks that have been recorded at various live performances by the WMD's in early 2008. Classic Keller songs like Casa Quetzal, Tribe, and The Juggler highlight the CD, with some newer and less known tracks in between.

But the DVD is where you really get your money's worth. Coming in at more than an hour in length, the DVD includes nine tracks that are not featured on either one of the CDs; Bob Rules, Freshies, No Sugar Tonight, Mullet Cut and Moving Sidewalk, just to name a few of the songs. With video taken directly from the on-stage video screen, you'll see portions of the band performing live mixed in with some still pictures and some special effects, as well. There is even a surprise guest or two appearing with the band for one song on the live DVD.

Keller Williams and The WMDs are currently on tour, and are even scheduled to play Jam Cruise on January 7, 2009. Besides performing with the group, Keller Williams also has some solo shows and other side projects scheduled, as well. Visit his website, www.kellerwilliams.net for more information.
