In performing the song, she showed her vulnerability in a major way. For the first time, Pickler publicly sang a song entitled "I Wonder," which she co-wrote for her mother.
Mid-way through the song, Pickler lost her place, and was forced to hold her head in her hands, sacrifice a few beats, and take a deep breath to regain her concentration.
This all happened at a point in the song where a montage of childhood pictures was being displayed behind the stage. During a line about prom, Picker turned around to see a photo of her wearing her prom dress. She subsequently began to break down.
In the personal biography featured on her official website, Pickler shares that she was only two years old when her parents split up. After separating, her mother left and Kellie was put into the care of her father. Sadly, her father was into drinking and drugs, and Kellie therefore spent most of her time growing up with her paternal grandparents.
Another song Pickler co-wrote was dedicated to her grandmother, and entitled, "My Angel." About her grandmother's death, Pickler has said, "Of all the things I have been through in my life, the hardest thing I've ever gone through is the loss of my grandmother. She was always there for me, and then she was gone."
Pickler has also stated, "There's a difference in running from your problems and overcoming them." In order to overcome her issues with her mother, she decided to write this song, but it has become obvious that is still dealing with the problem. To her credit, she has not run away.
Upon finishing the song, as the rest of the co-hosts walked onto the stage to console her, Pickler still had tears in her eyes. Her performance had moved Elisabeth Hasselback, a regular co-host on the show, to tears.
Rosie O'Donnell, who is working to complete her debut season on The View, hugged Pickler, telling her how brave she is to have shared this meaningful song.
This performance is a testament to how parental neglect and abandonment can have a serious long-term impact on a child. Twenty years later, Kellie Pickler is still suffering the consequences of growing up without a mother. And she will continue to do so.

Post a CommentI felt so bad for Kellie that song was sad because she had to tell about she wants her mom to be there for her but she isnt its hard to go through life without that one special person who is suppose to be there for you and love you the most if my mom want there and my farther wasnt then I dont know whhat I would do I say I dont like thm and all but they say that to because we are just mad right the but Kellie that that happend to you.
wkellie has a empty void in her young life, some one has to walk in her shoes. to see this.
I think kellie has alot of talent! She is amazing and I love her and the song I Wonder. The dress was a little shocking, but its all good! I love Kellie She Is the best and deserves the best.
Well, didn't know folks could be so cruel...but you never know....Kellie Pickler has touched a lot of folks...Loved her way before I knew her story, as did so many people...So glad she has been able to use her music to bless us and perhaps help herself resolve issues of her past abandonment....It is a comfort to know she was in the hands of loving grandparents, like so many kids today...LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Kellie Pickler
maybe that dress was'nt apropriate but i wish her all the luck in the world she deserves it
What a bunch of ignorant insensitive clods some of you hateful mean-spirited jerks are. You don't even know this dear sweet girl and yet you are rotten to the core with your venomous vitriolic attacks on her. Her mother abandoned her when she was two, her grandmother, who she loved more than anyone, died when she was just in her mid teens, and all you can do is heap hatred on her.
What a bunch of pitiful pathetic losers you are.
I think she cried and put her hand on her head more out of shock and embarassment over this photo than the moving lyrics to this song. God People wake up!!!
If this is what a small town girl who is supposedly a wholesome down home girl wears to her prom, Parents might want to reconsider her as a role model, she is definatley putting on an act folks. I mean for Goodness sakes you can almost see her pubic line.
Waaah Waaah, Kellie is taking this thing all the way to the bank, her management sure knows how to make her gain popularity. This girl has been using the sob story thing to get attention since she first auditioned for Idol. To bad she is going to become successful based on her story rather than her talent. which I feel she has very little of.
Interesting they chose not to reshoot the song. It was a taped show. Guess the tears are good for ratings.
