Kellogg's Extra Special K - Chocolately Delight

The New Special K with an Updated Twist

Sulli
On a recent trip to my local chain operated grocery store, there was a sample table set up with an employee giving out coupons and little plastic cups of a new cereal available from Battle Creek's own Kelloggs. It was called Kellogg's Special K Chocolatey Delight. It was a delight indeed! The crunchy rice and wheat flakes tasted sweeter than the normal Special K flakes do. There were also little chunks of sweet chocolate disbursed through out the cereal. I am a chocolate lover at heart, so I could not wait to buy a box to take home. Unfortunately it was not on sale, so I would have to wait. With the way cereal prices are these days, I always wait until they are on sale before purchasing them. Lucky for me, they went on sale at another super market a few weeks later. I used my coupon I received from the sample lady on my prior shopping trip and ended up paying about 3.00 for the box. This box was comparatively smaller than other boxes on the shelf down the cereal isle. It was only 13.4 ounces.

I could not wait for breakfast the next day so I could have a big bowl of this new cereal. When the time finally came, I grabbed for one of my bigger cereal bowls and filled it to the top with the Chocolatey Delight. I poured my milk on it and dug in. It was so crunchy and sweet, that my taste buds were delighted with the first contact they came into with it. One thing I did notice about this cereal was that the chocolate chunks left a film on the spoon. I have eaten the cereal with a metal and plastic spoon and it did the same thing. On the plus side though, the chocolate does not dissolve or melt into the milk, nor turn the milk chocolately. Also, the flakes stay crunchy for a respectable amount of time. We all know there is nothing worse than when you are half way through your cereal bowl and you are only left with the mush that use to be your once crunchy, flavorful cereal.

Although this chocolate treat like of a cereal may sounds like something only kids would love, rest assure it is still good for you. It is only 120 calories, 2 grams of fat, 25 grams of carbohydrates, and contains many vitamins and minerals that we adults strive to get into our diets everyday. The best part is, it taste good enough dry that you can eat it instead of a candy bar or the liking when you are sitting at your desk at work and your sweet tooth starts acting up.

All in all, I think Kellogg hit a home run with this addition to not only the Special K family of cereals, but to all the healthy cereals available. It's a great way to eat a nutritious meal, but at the same time satisfy your love of chocolate.

I've not tried this one because I'm not a fan of cereal but I love the red berry one right out of the box.

I've seen this stuff and thought about buying it but I don't normally dig chocolate in cereals. maybe they'll do some samples at our grocery store so I can try it.
