Kellogg's Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips Discontinued: What You Can Do About It

Call to Action: Contact Kellogg's Now to Bring Back Vegan Steak Strips

Mavyn McDaniels
Morningstar Farms has long been a provider of vegetarian and vegan food products that offer healthier, non-meat protein sources for vegetarians, vegans and flexitarians, as well as meat eaters. As a vegan, there are many Morningstar Farms products that I do not eat, but there are several vegan options that are always in my freezer. Until recently, a handy package of Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips was one of them.

Morningstar Farms was acquired by the Kellogg Company, which subsequently discontinued Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips. The product is no longer listed on the Morningstar Farms website and is not listed as part of the Morningstar Farms line on the Kellogg's website; however, there are still recipes that call for these vegan steak strips on the Morningstar Farms site for those of you who may still have some steak strips in your freezer.

A phone call to the Consumer Affairs line at the Kellogg Company confirmed that Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips were discontinued due to lack of performance, a statement that is also reflected in a report from another customer who contacted the Kellogg Company about these vegan steak strips and included the information in a comment left on my previous article on this product.

I reviewed these tasty, easy to prepare vegan "steak" strips in a September, 2008 article, Vegan Product Review: Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips, so if you would like to read more about Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips, please visit that link.

If you are already familiar with these delicious vegan steak strips and would like to encourage the Kellogg Company to bring back Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips, you can contact the company's Consumer Affairs department to let them know how much you enjoyed this product and that you would appreciate seeing it return to the freezer section of your local market.

There are three ways to contact the Kellogg Company to register your opinion on this matter:

Call the Kellogg Company Consumer Affairs Department at (800) 962-1413 and tell them you want them to bring back Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips.

Email the Kellogg Company Consumer Affairs Department through the Kellogg's website. To do this, you will need to go to the Contact Us page, scroll down to the box designated for requesting more information, enter your birthday, choose the General/Other topic and hit continue. This will take you to a separate page where you can type in your message asking for a return of Morningstar Farms vegan steak strips.

Write to Kellogg's at Kellogg Consumer Affairs, P.O. Box CAMB, Battle Creek, MI 49016 and let them know that you miss this great product.

Word on the street is that we might be able to convince them to bring back Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips if enough of us contact them requesting their return. If you contact Kellogg's and receive a response, please post a comment here to let us know.

Just wanted to encourage everyone to write to Kellogs! A few years back I kept writing to the Skittles people to ask them to make the candy without gelatin. It took lots of people and a few years but now Skittles are finally vegetarian and vegan friendly. Customer loyalty means a lot to these companies, especially if they know they stand to lose customers (and money) if they don't make changes.

I just emailed Kellogs and I'm waiting to hear back.

I called Kellogg's today and Customer Service states the veggie steak strips were discontinued in June 2009. They suggest to keep calling to try to get the product returned.

I went to four different grocery stores yesterday and today trying to find the damn things and then found this website. I am so disappointed!! I can't believe they were discontinued. I just posted a comment on their website and I really hope they start making them again.

I just sent an email. My children and I loved the veggie steak strips. I am very disappointed to see them go. I do not see how they say they were not selling. As soon as they came in to any grocery I would go to they would be gone. I hope they bring them back. Maybe someone could fax them tall of these comments.

I sent the following to Kellog's regarding the Steak Strips having been discontinued. I encourage others to follow suit and make impassioned pleas to Kellog's to return the product to the shelves and in the future do a better job of advertising the product.

    PLEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!
Bring back the Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips.......

I would like to have a talk with whoever was responsible for the decision to discontinue the most perfect food ever! [I don't really want to receive a phone call in order to discuss the wayward thinking of this individual. I just want him or her to think about how difficult it is for a vegetarian to find foods that are quick and easy, actually taste soooo good, have more than minute traces of nutritional value, can be used in - like - a gazillion different awesome and delicious ways, and don't have a high fat and sodium content.] After considering all of these valid and important issues, I would like the aforementioned misguided individua

Post Punk Kitchen rocks! Thank you for posting a link to that recipe. Also, thank you to everyone who has called and emailed about MorningStar Farms Steak Strips being discontinued.

A note my fellow vegans - - keep an eye on other MorningStar products that are still on the market - some previously vegan products now have eggs and milk ingredients.

I just emailed them after finding your website and hearing that they indeed had been discontinued. It's very disappointing. Hope something good comes of our emailing.
