Ken Shamrock to Fight Kimbo Slice

John Vann
Legendary UFC cage fighter Ken Shamrock, now 44-years-old, will step in the octagon at least one more time to face a relative newcomer in the ring, Kimbo Slice. Ken Shamrock, who is a 15 year veteran and boasts twice as many wins as losses over the span of his illustrious career, is set to fight the undefeated Slice. At age 34, Kimbo has only 3 professional mixed martial arts fights under his belt.

Ken Shamrock, known as The World's Most Dangerous Man, has celebrated 26 wins in his lifetime, suffered only 13 losses and 2 draws. He has fought in the octagon with Ultimate Fighting Championship greats such as Dan "The Beast" Severn, Tito Ortiz, and Royce Gracie. Outside of his own professional mixed martial arts career, Shamrock has also helped numerous aspiring fighters with The Lion's Den; a training group put together to help maximize the potential of these eager young men.

But this isn't to say that Slice is necessarily the underdog in this match, however. Standing 6'2" and 240 lbs, Kimbo Slice, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson nearly dwarves his newest opponent, Ken Shamrock who is only 5'11" and 205 lbs. Slice's first professional match saw a submission in only 1 minute and 12 seconds in the first round - his second bout, against UFC veteran David "Tank" Abbot, lasted less than a minute. Kimbo's third and most recent professional fight lasted a little longer, but the outcome was ultimately the same.

Many people know Kimbo Slice from his real life street fight videos that made their way onto video sites like www.YouTube.com and all over the internet. His popularity has risen fast, and he has gone from fighting for literally a few hundred dollars to making three figures in just a matter of months. Recently he has been featured as the main event on EliteXC (Elite Xtreme Combat), which first aired on Showtime before moving to CBS.

You can still see all of Kimbo Slice's early fights, along with clips from his 3 professional fights by visiting www.YouTube.com. Besides this you can find highlights from Ken Shamrock's career, as well as from the series EliteXC. Also, don't forget to tune your television sets to CBS on October 4th to see Ken Shamrock vs. Kimbo Slice broadcasted live from The BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
