Kenny Chesney is Not Happy with the ACM

The ACM's Top Award is Now Tarnished

On Sunday Night Kenny Chesney was awarded his fourth consecutive Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year award. This puts him in the company of country music legends like Garth Brooks and the group Alabama. Chesney was excited about getting the award, but it seems that there was a little bit missing this year. Backstage Chesney had this to say:

"I am so thankful to the fans, and this is nothing against the act that had that MP3 thing, because I love them boys,. But the entertainer of the year award is the top award, and it represents work and sacrifice and commitment. And it should not be about what artist can push people's buttons on the Internet. I think the Academy should really reconsider the way it does this award."

The act that he is referring to is Rascal Flatts, another mega group in country music that offered a free mp3 download if fans would go and vote.

In this case, I have to agree with Kenny Chesney. There are awards that fans should not be able to vote on because we only see the final product, not all of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. I think that maybe there should be a fan's favorite award or something along those lines that does incorporate the fan's opinions, but to let us vote for THE award of the year is a little disrespectful and takes the prestige out of winning the award. There is no way that enough people can go and see every act that comes up for nomination to determine if they are the best entertainer of the year or not, therefore this decision should be left to industry professionals.

In conclusion, Mr. Chesney I saw your show last September in Atlanta, GA and it was hands down the best show I have ever seen. Here is a list of who "showed up": Sugarland, Pat Green, Dave Matthews, Joe Walsh of the Eagles, Uncle Cracker and I think there were some more. So, no matter who voted on it, you deserve it. Keep up the great work.
