Ken's House of Pancakes in Hilo, Hawaii

The Best Breakfast on the Big Island

Ken's House of pancakes has been a famous landmark in Hilo Hawaii since 1971. It is located on the corner of Kamehameha and Kanoelehua on the Big Island of Hawaii, in Hilo town. There are not a lot of restaurants in Hilo but out of the few, Ken's definitely tops them all, especially in the category of breakfast. Ken's Pancakes is open 24 hours of day. The wait staff is wonderfully nice and greets everybody with Aloha. Ken has won the blue ribbon for the best rated breakfast by customers.

After arriving in Hilo for a vacation or business trip, why not let this "hot eating spot" be the place you stop to chow down on some real Hawaiian type breakfast, lunch or dinner food. It is close to the airport, and calling your name.

The Menu- The pancakes are out of this world you must checkout the local style Macadamia Pancakes. The fresh macadamia's come from the island of Molokai. They are crushed up and added to the melt in your mouth buttermilk batter. Then to top off those" out of this world" pancakes is homemade coconut syrup. It is too good! Fresh Banana Pancakes-blended with nothing but island bananas have some "ono" (translation delicious in Hawaiian) smoked bacon or Portuguese sausage (another local favorite) on the side. KoKonut Pancakes- what a real treat for coconut lovers. Coconut fever will hit you eating fluffy coconut pancakes with the coconut syrup. There are low calorie syrups available also. Ken's has passion and guava syrups too.

Portions are large and hearty to ward off any hunger pain. Of course you are welcome to order plain large buttermilk pancakes that you may be accustomed to or mainland favorites like strawberry or blueberry pancakes with all the toppings. French toast- "local style" is the best thickest French toast. The thick sliced wedges of fresh Molokai Bakery Round Portuguese sweet bread is used for the breakfast treat. Add to this specialty a side of hot, crispy, sizzlin',bacon, pork link, Portuguese sausage, ham or corned beef for a little extra. Vegetarians need not order. Just stick to the toast. Don't let the meat choices blind side you or get your stomach in knots. You do not have to just get pancakes at Ken's Pancake House. Do you want waffles? Order the Malted Belgian Wafflesor "Benee" and the Benedicts. Another scrumptious favorite is Ken's crab cakes served with tomato & spinach then topped with hollandaise sauce and on the side rice, hash browns, toast or pancakes. Sorry no grits, for you southern lovers. Hawaiians serve rice instead. Meat less and healthy choice substitutions are available just ask your server. I could go on and on about Ken's breakfast. There is an awesome Veggie Breakfast Burritos- with eggs, onions, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheddar topped with Spanish sauce and finished with a sprinkle of green onions and olives. It is ono-licious.

Food is always hot and fresh. Locals and visitors love it. Ken has great lunch and dinner favorites as well. The mahi mahi and fried chicken are tasty items on the dinner menu. Ken's will continue to be voted the #1 breakfast place in Hilo for years to come.

On your way to Hilo drop by for some real snow crab omelets, vegetarian omelets, Island favorites like "sumo moco" for big appetites. There is a kid's menu as well called the keiki korner, light eaters may order from the menu too. Don't forget to order Ken's House of Pancakes tote bags and t-shirts for souvenirs.

Serving 24 hours Aloha.
