Things You Shouldn't Miss
May is just around the corner, and May 4th is the 40th anniversary of the day 4 students were killed during an attack by the National Guard in 1970. As a student of the college, you should definitely attend this memorial service. Here you will be moved by the stories told by students who were at the Kent State University Campus that day and stories by family members of students who lost their lives. You can sit up on the hillside, the same hillside the shootings happened and sit amongst other students interested in national history. The year I attended was 2001, and we were given a newspaper that showed the campus in 2001 and the campus on 1970 with the troops and students running in the same exact area. It was a hair raiser for me and a day I would never forget.

Places To Visit
The Student Recreation and Wellness Center is the place to go for entertaining your body. Here you will find the indoor rock climb, the pool, the excercise gym, and a basketball court. As a student you can attend for free, and if you would like to take a non-student adult you can do that as well for a fee of $10 for an adult, $9 for a youth ages 13-17, and a child for $7 ages 3-12. I used to visit this gym after classes, between classes, and in the morning. This is a great place to get fit.
The Ice Arena is also an excellent place to visit, expecially if you know how to ice skate. You can learn to play hockey, attend a public ice skate, or check out the theatre on ice.
The Kent State University Fashion Museum is a great place for first year students interested in following a career in the fashion industry. Here you will find several exhibits from designers in the 1800s to the present time. You will find fabulous gowns and dresses that have been designed from all over the world. You can visit for free as a student of Kent State University.
Kent Stage is a great place for first year students to visit if they are interested in music and arts. Here you can see several stage performances by ambitious students wanted to express their inner art to the world. Starting in April, famous singers like Henry Rollins, Mick Taylor, and John Batdorf will be performing here.
Dix Stadium is the place for action. The Golden Flashes mens football team plays against some of the best players in the area right here at Dix Stadium, located about a mile down from the University. During your first fall semester, you must check out the best football game you'll see around campus. Enjoy the excitement of the crowd cheering on their favorite team.
