Kentucky Teen Injured at Six Flags Has Foot Reattached

Doctors at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee reattached the right foot of a thirteen-year-old Kentucky girl after her feet were severed on an amusement park ride according to Fox News. The family said in a statement on Tuesday the left foot could not be saved because it was too severely damaged. The Lassiters stated they would not have wanted her at any other hospital Kaitlyn Lassiter is in stable condition after her feet were cut above the ankles while riding on the Superman Tower of Power ride at Six Flags on June 21.

On WKIY News, Dr. Douglas Weikert said, "We are not able the left lower extremity due to the severity of the surgery. Things are progressing as expected over the first ten days." The accident happened when a cable malfunctioned and broke. Investigators have confiscated the cable they thought severed Kaitlyn's feet. The investigation will take several weeks. According to the family's statement no one from Six Flags has made an attempt to contact them regarding Kaitlyn's injuries but the amusement park denies this statement.

Kaitlyn's parents thanked the staff who did the operation and the community for their support. The parents stated on WKIY News , "We look forward to Kaitlyn's recovery .and getting back to some sort of normalcy in our lives. Without the support of our closest friends this could have been a more difficult situation to handle."

It is uncertain what caused the cable to malfunction. Wilbur Frye, head director with Kentucky's Office of Consumer and Environmental Protection commented on Kentucky.com, "Our investigators are analyzing a tremendous amount volume of evidence in order to piece together exactly what happened. It is more important to be right than be fast." Investigators continue to take statements from witnesses and reviewed photographs. The ride passed inspection on April 5 and found to be safe. The Superman Tower of Power lifts riders 177 feet in the air and drops them back down at speeds of fifty-four miles an hour.

The Superman Tower of Power ride will stay closed until the investigation is over. The ride's manufacturers have also been contacted. The amusement park closed several similar rides at other parks for safety reasons in Missouri, Washington, and Illinois.

I am happy that Kaitlyn is recovering. I have thought about her a lot since this horrible accident occured. I do feel that her parents are right in suing the amusement park, and I also feel that that park should assume responsibility, because it is horrible, and should NEVER happen anyone else.
I hope that Kaitlyn is okay....there are many people who wish her well, and she should know that EVERYONE cares for HER!
