Everyone loves a bargain, and with the economy in the shape that it's in right now, yard sales are a great way to stretch your budget and get more for your money. Many cities host city-wide yard sales each year. However, five counties in Kentucky are hosting a 150-mile long yard sale in October. The yard sale will be held the first weekend of October. The dates are Friday, October 3, Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, 2008. The yard sale will happen along US Highway 60, and stretch along six counties. These counties are Henderson, Union, Daviess, Hancock, Breckenridge and Meade counties. Some of the towns along the route include beautiful historic Corydon, Morganfield, and the City of Henderson. Also along the route are Sturgis, Morganfield, Waverly,Owensboro (home of Moonlite Bar-B-Q Restaurant), Lewisport, Hawesville, Cloverport, Hardinsburg, Irvington and Muldraugh. You'll get to see some of the prettiest parts of Kentucky, and a lot of the scenic Ohio River byway as well.

While a lot of individual citizens will be emptying their closets and basements and offering items for sale, this is also a chance for local organizations and charities to sell items for fund-raising efforts. A lot of crafters will be making and selling their handmade wares as well. And there will be plenty of foods, drinks and other snacks for sale along the route, to help you keep up your strength as you shop until you drop.

And if the Highway 60 Yard Sale doesn't offer you enough opportunity to spend your money on great bargains, you can also check out the Green River Area Development District's Arts & Crafts Festival which will be held on the same weekend at the John James Audubon State Park in Henderson. You can get to the Audubon State Park by taking US Highway 60 to US Highway 41 North. The park is on the north side of Henderson, just before you reach the twin bridges across the Ohio River into Evansville, Indiana. This is the 36th year for this event. If you attend, you'll find artisan and craftsman booths, artist demonstrations, delicious food, and live music, accompanied by some of the most beautiful scenery Mother Nature has to offer.
