Kerr Tire in Lynchburg, Virginia: A Review

Fort Avenue Location

I took my mom's car to the Kerr Tire location on Fort Ave for an alignment and four new tires. Considering I had been out running errands for a while, I had hoped to use their bathroom. I was dismayed at seeing the no public bathroom sign on the door. I asked the man at the desk how long it would take to do the alignment and replace the tires. When he said it'd take about two hours, I replied that I might need to reschedule the appointment.

After I explained the problem, he admitted the sign was there to stop non-customers from using their bathroom. Since customers are still the public, the sign should say the bathroom is for customers only. After I gave him the keys to the car, he walked off. He never did tell me where the bathroom was. Apparently, it was hidden somewhere in the back.

It has been a year now, and my mom hasn't had any problems with her Cooper brand tires that Kerr Tire recommended. I highly recommend Cooper tires. Kerr Tire, however, needs to improve their customer service. The couple of guys that I met there weren't friendly.

Old Forest Road Location

Kerr Tire offers free tire rotation for the life of the tires when purchased through them. Not wanting to revisit the Fort Ave location, though, I made an appointment for the tire rotation at the Kerr Tire on Old Forest Rd. However, my mom ended up going instead. When she arrived, she was surprised that there were so many customers waiting. Over two hours later, she gave up and informed them she was leaving.

When I called the manager about her experience, he said that my appointment had never actually been written down. He said that the man who works the desk was taking multiple appointments for the same time slots to prevent no-shows. He also admitted that he wasn't there when this happened, and assured it wouldn't happen again.

My mom made another appointment to have a tire rotation at this location. She had to wait over an hour for them to rotate the tires.

The free tire rotation was the reason that I bought the tires from Kerr Tire. If not for that, I would have gone somewhere else. As it is, though, we don't have the tires rotated there because the wait is so incredibly long. While free tire rotation with the purchase of four tires was a good idea, it seems that neither Kerr Tire location can keep up with the demand on top of their regular business.

I REALLY like the Kerr Tire on Park Avenue. I get great customer service from them - never have to worry about picking up my car and finding out that they've done random other repairs. They always take the time to explain things that need to be repaired and will give me a headsup on future repairs.

We had problems with Kerr's automotive service in 2003-2004. They changed the front axle on our car and didn't ensure that the transaxle fluid was up to level, and we had to have the transaxle repaire at a cost of $900. There were other problems too, including Mr. Kerr's attitude.
