Kevin McCall the Un-Invited Guest Mixtape Review

The Reviewer
With one song R&B singer, rapper, producer and songwriter Kevin McCall's life all changed. That song was Chris Brown and Tyga's Deuces featuring and produced by Kevin McCall. That song went on to be one of the biggest tracks of 2011 and made Kevin highly in demand for his production and as an artist. Now Kevin is poised for breakout success with his first mixtape the DJ Drama and DJ Ill Will hosted The Un-Invited Guest. Will Kevin McCall truly hit the big time with this mixtape?

The mixtape opens with How Many Bars? The rap song is harder than most of the other tracks on the album and features Kevin rapping exclusively.

Rest of My Life features frequent collaborator Chris Brown. The song has definite single potential and is already radio ready. Kevin might not have the strongest vocals in the industry but he delivers them well on tracks.

On Pleasure and Pain Kevin is joined by Omarion. The song is another very solid track. Kevin seems to be at his best when focusing on the R&B genre although he is a very talented rapper.

Chris Brown and Ludacris join the party on BJJ. The song has been featured on Chris Brown's In The Zone mixtape.

Pay Me is one of the stronger rap songs on the mixtape. The song features a simple repetitive beat which lets Kevin's verses shine.

Swizz Beatz, Chris Brown and Diesel join on Freaky I'm Is. The title might be enough to make an English teacher cringe but the song is fairly solid.

Our Moment is a remake of Nicki Minaj's Moment 4 Life featuring the Virgin Islands own Rock City. The song is one of the best on the mixtape even though it is a cover.

Los Angeles rapper Game joins on Power of the P. The song is not one of the strongest tracks on the mixtape and a very solid Game cameo can barely save it.

Hands On is a fairly solid R&B mid-tempo track. The song shows off some of Kevin's vocal deficiencies unfortunately.

Tip Her features Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane. The high point of the song is definitely Gucci Mane's verse as the hook is not that great.

On 360 Kevin is joined by Chris Brown and Tyga in a Deuces reunion. The song has a completely different feel to Deuces and is not all that enjoyable.

It seems like Kevin McCall is going through an identity crisis on The Un-Invited Guest. It is not really clear if Kevin is a rapper who sings or a singer who raps. He is strongest when he focuses on one or the other not both at the same time. Overall The Un-Invited Guest gets 7 out of 10. If you are a fan of Kevin McCall make sure you pick up his mixtape The Un-Invited Guest which is out now.
