Key Cooking Disasters on Film

Films such as "Like Water for Chocolate" and "Soul Food" may be Hollywood's way of showing audiences the joys of cooking. However, other movies reveal a side of the kitchen that is not so fun when it comes to serving or eating a good meal.

When two friends break into a fast food restaurant in "Good Burger," customers dining inside the building later feel like they are experiencing an earthquake. Ed accidentally pours an illegal food additive into the meat grinding machine and causes the microwaves and other food processing equipment at the restaurant to explode. While the scene was a financial disaster for the Mondo Burger business, it is even more tragic for everyone else, considering the fact that customers were not aware that the manager was serving chemically processed food to them all along.

The main character in "Pieces of April" should have checked on the shape of her appliances before planning to cook an entire Thanksgiving dinner for her family. With no operating oven, April resorts to borrowing time in other tenants' kitchens throughout her apartment building. While the ordeal gives her an opportunity to get to know her neighbors more, April's antics affect everyone else's dinner plans, making for an rather intrusive Thanksgiving experience for those involved.

Samantha's romantic holiday gesture in "Sex and the City" was a reminder that she has no place in the kitchen. The scene where this feisty publicist laid on a dinner table naked, her body covered in sushi, may not have been the most sanitary way to serve guests, but it was not the worst action that occurred in her kitchen. Disaster ensued when she got tired of waiting for her boyfriend to come home, stood up, allowing the raw fish to fall to the ground, and then threw it at him when he finally arrived.
