Key Largo Diving

Key Largo is a Mecca for Diving Enthusiasts

Spending a vacation in south Florida would be incomplete without a trip to the Florida Keys. Head down US highway 1, after passing Florida City you cross a bridge into Key Largo, the first and largest in the long chain of Florida keys. After the harried, congested pace of the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area, the keys are a welcome change. Life runs at a slower pace here, and Key Largo is a favorite of scuba divers.

The offshore John Pennekamp state park has a vast shallow water area to explore. Greyhound bus lines runs through here on it's daily Miami-Key West runs. Dive shops and boat rentals are plentiful, and there is a small airport catering to private aircraft. The overbuilding that happened farther north did not happen here in Key Largo.

There is even an underwater hotel in Key Largo with two guestrooms for adventurous types, which was a former marine research unit that was converted to the hotel
