Key to Saving a Marriage Despite Kids Coming Along

Some people marry and have no intention of raising a family, but because of time and unforeseen occurrence (and, well, because they are taking part in the sexual act), sometimes the kids come along anyway. And for many, it interrupts the balance that once existed between marriage mates, and this interruption can be very disappointing. So that this does not happen to you, or if it has already and you want to correct it, what can you do?

The biggest key to keeping a strong marriage despite having children who now take much of your time is: HAVE A LOVING HOME. I say this because you never want to talk or act as if you are excluding your children from the marriage. They are a part of your marriage now whether you like it or not, and the only thing you can do is to make it work. To do that, you must create a loving home where the children themselves feel loved and appreciated. One of the biggest thing a human needs is love - health is dependent on it! This is especially so in the early years of development in a child's life. When there is not adequate love, a child is in essence crippled for life.

Why is this so necessary? Because things other than the fact that the children are around are going to creep up into the marriage life to test you - things like financial strains, health problems, and other items. But when children experience a loving environment to begin with, it is easier for the entire family to understand the problems taking place.

What is a huge way to make your home this loving and nurturing environment? It is by planning regular times to spend together as a family. This should be done even when there are hard times - do not neglect your family's routine simply because you are experience some type of trial.

This planning of regular times to spend together goes for the husband-wife relationship as well. Why not try this suggestion: When the children are tucked away in bed, why not the two of you spend some quiet time together reading or playing a board game together? Do not stifle this precious time by giving your attention to television viewing. This special time spent together could also include something very valuable: expressions of affection for each other. Keep the romance in your marriage by scheduling these times to be together!

It is also easier, when children have come along, to constantly notice the faults in your spouse. Instead of doing that, why not take a step back each day and find something good to praise your spouse about?

The praise should also be extended towards the children, and so everyday tell them that you love them! Do not assume that they already know this. Kids are like little plants, and the reassurance of your love for them is like the sun. They completely depend on your love!
