Key to Success - Happiness

How many times have you heard from your fellow colleagues that they want to switch jobs because their current jobs are boring and they have lost interest? How many times have you heard someone say they regretted studying a particular course of study because they have no interest in it? Or have you thought about these before? Many of us have worked in a company for years and over time, we start to think "why am I doing the same thing over and over again everyday?" or "where am I heading to?" By now you should already realize that it is very important that one not only has interest in his or her job, but should also be passionate about it.

Passion in your work brings you a very long way. You will start jumping off your bed every morning when the alarm goes off instead of reaching out to snooze the button. You will look forward to work everyday and be happy when you knock off. Your performance at work will be raised, your colleagues will look up to you as a role model, your superior will be pleased with you, and who knows, you might even get a pay raise without long!

I heard you retorting, "Oh it's easier said than done." But here is a very simple tip to getting that passion - it is all in your mind. Start telling yourself (sincerely of course!) that you are satisfied with your job and you should have a positive attitude about everything and everyone around you. Depression is a never-ending spiral. If you are upset about something, whether at work or not, your mind will tend to keep harping on it as long as you do not let it go. When you keep thinking about that unhappy thought, the same emotion tends to be generated in everything else that you do. Then, when something bad happens, your mind will associate it with the unhappy event that happened earlier, and you will get even more depressed.

So the point here is to have a positive mind! If something unpleasant happens at work with a colleague, make sure you get over it the moment you step out of the office. Leave it behind, go home and have a good rest and look forward to another day! Do not store it in your mental bank of grudges; it is a waste of cognitive space!

When you start thinking optimistically, everything will run smoothly. You get over disputes quicker and can focus more of your energy on what is really important. When you manage to complete a task and know you have put in effort, you feel great about yourself and your confidence is boosted. When you have high self-esteem you tend to perform even better in your tasks. You go home feeling great, you feel proud of having such a wonderful family with you, and you get sweet dreams!

So go ahead and empty the trash in your head and look forward to a brighter tomorrow!
