Keys to Growing Your Own Wheatgrass

If you haven't had your head under a rock for the past few years, you know that juice bars have been popping up like wildfire. And one of the most sought after natural juices is that of wheatgrass. Although it's only just baby wheat, wheatgrass is jammed packed with nutrients that make it one of the most popular juice choices around.

But you don't have to go to a local juice bar just to get a glass. You can increase your health by making your own powerpacked wheatgrass juice in the comfort of your own home. So here's a quick guide to growing and creating your own wheatgrass juice.

If you're looking to improve you health levels, then you should start out with three trays of wheatgrass every three days. This will allow you to have three trays maturing at the optimum time. This is also called the 3x3x3 plan. To execute this, simply soak your wheatgrass seeds to begin the germination process. This should be done overnight. Spread the wheatgrass seeds on top of a potting tray that has at most an inch or so of compost sitting on lower half. Water them again, and don't cover them. There's no need for it.

To prevent any stagnant growth, bring the trays of wheatgrass in from outside at night. Cold temperatures tend to slow down the growing process.

Usually within 9 to 13 days, or when your wheatgrass reaches a height of approximately 9 to 10 inches, your wheatgrass is ready for harvest. Use a knife or a pair of clean scissors to cut the grass right off at the root. Use a single auger juicer or a twin gear juicer to juice your wheat grass.

You should be able to get at least 2 large shot's of wheat grass from a third of the amount on the tray. You could mix it with another juice or drink it as is. I've heard mixing it with a nice green granny apple tastes great, even though I've never tried it myself. You can also mix it with another vegetable you like. But be warned; its flavor will pretty much over power anything you mix it with.

Three shots a day is a great way to keep you health level up and your body full of nutrients. Not to mention, wheatgrass is a great detox and helps remove unwanted toxins from your body.

So give it a try, and see if you can become your own wheatgrass producer.
