Keyshia Cole: Just like You

A Conversation Across Generations

saba,ink
Okay, I know that Keyshia Cole's new CD "just like you" has been out for a minute but I will put a disclaimer on this one; "my daughter ate my copy..." there, I've said it!

Let's just say I received my review copy a while back but could not get it out of my pre-teen daughter's CD player to listen to it. So, now that she is in school, I've finally hit EJECT on her player and PLAY on mine.

As Keyshia Cole prepares to hit the road November 14 with Mr. R. Kelly on a national tour, I am confident from the sound of her CD, that she'll definitely know how to handle herself in the sometimes big bad world. Every song on this CD is interpreted with passion and makes you feel that even though this diva might be young by years her spirit and experiences are certainly full of maturity. She delves into the many emotions that come with the journey that is life and most certainly LOVE.

The music selections and vocal quality is consistent, which is sometimes hard to find in music today. Every tune evokes an emotion that we can all relate to making it clear why the collection is entitled "just like you." Essentially, we've all been there at some point in our lives or relationships. Keyshia brings it home with classic R& B flavor mixed in with that hip-hop vibe which in some ways is reminiscent of Mary J Blige (trying to be happy). The unique mix and feel is what allows this collection to create "a conversation across generations." As one goes on to listen to the strength and vocal style of Keyshia, you realize however that this young lady is certainly no carbon-copy....she's definitely no "Same Thing," she's got a style that's all her own!

I am truly feeling this CD from beginning to end and with powerhouses like Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim, Anthony Hamilton, Diddy, T.I., Too $hort and Young Dro all on deck for this sophomore release, it is nothing but pure listening pleasure.

Like most smart business people, Keyshia Cole has executive produced "just like you" along with her manager Manny Halley & Ron Fair. She is obviously not satisfied with music alone, as she is busy diversifying her career with a starring role in the upcoming MTV film "How She Moves," while working on season two of her BET reality show called "The Way It Is 2," also Executive Produced by Keyshia and her manager Manny Halley.

So, now that I've had a listen, I'll be sharing Keyshia Cole with my daughter because through all her struggles, this young lady has chosen the path of self-empowerment and spirituality --- and what momma wouldn't want her daughter to listen to that kind of advice?

Keyshia Cole: just like you, and in stores now!
