Tips on How to Improve Your Keyword Density

Amanda Farrell
Keyword Density: When publishing online it may be necessary to alter your style to suit the search engines that are delivering your work to potential readers. Providing the greatest density of keywords will ensure that anyone looking for your subject will find it. Be sure to describe your subject with simple, straight-forward keywords, and repeat often. For example, I am writing a short (satirical?) piece about keyword density right now, so I will want to point out that the key to keyword density is repeating the keywords very densely. Here are some tips to help you subtly add never-the-less mechanical-sounding keywords to your piece:

Keyword Density Tip #1
Break your article into sections with headings that contain the keyword you would like to densify, followed by a number.

Keyword Density Tip #2
Place your keywords in prominent locations, such as the title and first sentence and the beginnings of paragraphs.

Keyword Density Tip #3
Be sure there are as many sections as possible, even if the second could easily fit with the first, separate them so that you can mention the keyword, which in this case is "keyword density", one more time.

Keyword Density Tip #4
Do not use synonyms of the keywords unless they are also likely to be used as keywords in a search engine, in which case, use all of them many times.

Keyword Density Tip #5
As you key your words and keywords onto the screen, do not stray from the monotony. Stay focused on keyword density.

Keyword Density Tip #6
Remember why you are here; that is, for readers and page views and accumulating density of shiny pennies in your cyberworld account.

Keyword Density Tip #7
Refer to keyword density tip #6. See how the word "density" is used again, but not necessarily to describe "keyword density". Understanding the density of meaning within each keyword will help you key into ways of increasing their density within your piece.

Keyword Density Tip #8
If you cannot resist using your thesaurus to add variety to your piece, throw it away. Maybe some bum on the street will have the time to browse through it, but not you; page views pay the bills.

Keyword Density Tip #9
Also, be your own warped parent and block access to any websites that may improve your vocabulary. Lock online thesauruses away; throw away the key to these words.

Keyword Density Tip #10:
Key words in a way in which keywords represent the optimum model of the density of keyword density to which we aspire.

Keyword Density Tip #11
Choose your keywords carefully. Get into the minds of the readers. What keywords will they think to search for when looking for your content?

Keyword Density Tip #12
Sometimes readers do not know that they are looking for your content at all. For instance, an excellent article about keyword density (for which the keywords would obviously be "keyword density") may not generate many page views, even though it has the densest density of keywords of all other links involving the subject of keyword density. If this happens, choose a popular keyword that people have been searching for today, and which most closely matches the subject of your piece. Then repeat it many times and add it to your article's keywords. (Now, is this article most like a news anchor's embarrassing naked video, a big Iowa State football game, or the protest on Washington?)

In conclusion, getting your content to online readers can be challenging. Obsession with keyword density can turn a good writer into one more concerned with search engines than human readers, and can turn good writing into spam. If you write naturally, and choose keywords that honestly represent your subject, the people who were meant to find your work will.

  • Use keywords in key places, such as the title and first sentence.
  • Break your article into sections with headings that contain the keyword.
  • Some search engines will mark your content as spam if it has too much repetition of a keyword.
It is easy to find the most popular keywords being searched for on any given day, and they give an interesting perspective on online culture. But seriously, only use keywords that describe your content, or else the internet will be a mess.
