When choosing your keywords, it is important that you choose keywords which are most relevant to the topic of the article or website as well as ensuring that they comply with common terms that users type into search engines. For example, if you are writing a topic that covers modern living room furniture, your keywords would likely be along the lines of "leather sectional sofa," "sofas and loveseats," or other relevant terms. However, the placement and use of those keywords is just as important as which keywords you use for your website or article.
Generally, the optimal percentage of keywords within an article is between 1% and 3%, although this number can often vary depending on the total number of words within the article. A common mistake among business professionals who may lack an understanding of keyword density is going over and above this percentage. While it may seem as though search engine rankings may improve by using words and phrases more often, this technique can actually have negative results. When a keyword is used too often within a page, search engines often tend to overlook these websites, treating them as spam. For the professional who is trying to build a successful business, using too many keywords is the wrong path to take.
Be sure that when using your keyword that you have other terms and phrases that are relevant to that specific search term. When search engine spiders crawl the web for relevant content, your page is most likely to be examined if there are varying terms within the content that are of relevance to search terms. This tells the spiders that your content is relevant, thereby increasing your chances of having your page appear in the search results.
Above anything, search engines are seeking out quality content that is informational and entertaining to the readers. With that said, do not skimp out on writing quality content that naturally includes your keywords. If the words seem forced into the content, readers will likely notice the writing flaws. While consistent and accurate use of keywords is beneficial on your part, readers are focused on finding quality content that suits their needs for information. When you are able to supply content that is both informative and has natural use of key phrases or words, readers are much more likely to find satisfaction and may often return to your website or page for additional information. Not only this, but the chances of a reader recommending your page to others is much higher if the content is of high standards.
