KFC Grilled Chicken Food Review

My Experience with Their 2 Piece Meal

K. Amlap
I finally received my free 2 piece KFC grilled chicken meal coupon in the mail a couple of weeks ago. My coupon was valid for exactly one week in July. It was good for a 2 piece meal with 2 sides, a biscuit and a medium drink. This coupon replaced the one that was featured on Oprah that was discontinued due to the overwhelming response it had received.

When I arrived at KFC, I presented the coupon to the cashier who happened to be the manager. She was kind enough to allow me to choose from a breast and wing meal or a thigh and drumstick meal. The coupon states that is actually the manager's choice. Of course, I chose the breast and wing because that combo has the most chicken meat. I am a big fan of white meat. I ordered double mashed as my two sides, which is my usual choice. The value of the meal came to $6.59 before it was zeroed out by my coupon.

I filled my medium drink cup as my order was being assembled. To my dismay, the Pepsi was all out and I settled on iced tea. My order was prepared quickly and I sat down at the nearest table. I perused the room to see if everyone else also had their free meal, but noticed that was not the case. I suppose KFC really restricted their coupons to be effective for alternating weeks throughout the summer, in order to avoid selling out of the grilled chicken again.

The chicken looked smaller for some reason, which was probably due to the lack of breading that is on the normally deep fried chicken combos. The skin was very thin and the chicken had a lighter and healthier color overall. There was a small amount of spice on the skin that had a reddish hue.

The chicken tasted good, but was a little on the bland side. Without all of the spices that are contained within the breading, it was lacking a bit of flavor. The chicken however, tasted great and was very juicy. The chicken breast had a lot of meat and was filling. My overall impression of KFC's new grilled chicken was favorable. I would certainly continue to buy it as long as they offer the same kind of specials that they do with their regular chicken. I think people will be open to the idea of healthier chicken as long as it does not cost them more.
