Allowing your kids to work in the garden with you is not only fun but educational. Not only will they enjoy having fun in the garden but they will learn many valuable lessons and learn about different plants, animals and insects. Below are some fun, kid friendly garden ideas.

Sunflower Garden

What kids doesn't love planting sunflowers? Sunflowers are a great for kids as they are easy to maintain. Build a sunflower bed or create a nice long row of sunflowers. With so many to choose from, the possibilities are endless. Different colors, flower sizes, heights and seed production are some of the differences among sunflowers. When your sunflowers begin to die, teach your child how to harvest the seeds and store them for next year!

Create Your Own Garden Stones

Another kid friendly garden idea is to create your own garden stones. Garden crafts are a great way to decorate your garden and have fun at the same time. You can find various sizes and shapes of stepping stones at local department stores. You can paint the stones, add small ornaments, glue jewels, beads and other accessories to your stones.

If you want to get more creative you can make your own stones. Using metal or tin pie pans you can create molds. Poor in premade concrete, molding clay or pottery clay and allow to dry. Once dried, you can begin your designs. Another advantage to using stones that you have made at home is that you can create custom designed stones. While your cement is still damp, use cookies cutters, shapes, handprints or draw in your stone to give it a personal touch.

You can always use this as a rainy day project as well. Create the garden stones when the weather doesn't permit you to go outside and then place them outside in the garden on the next beautiful, sun shiny day!

Feed the Birds

Feeding the birds is a great outdoor activity for kids. Set up an area with a bird feeder, a birdbath and maybe even a cute birdhouse. Be sure to keep the bird feeder full of food and the birdbath full of clean water. You may also want to put up hummingbird feeders to attract those beautiful little creatures. Allow your kids to feed and clean the water as needed.

Chia Pets

Chia pets are another great idea for kid friend garden projects. Chia pets are cute and easy to grow. They also make great yard ornaments. Help your child grow their favorite animal or character Chia pet.

Squirrel Feeder

Squirrel feeders are a great idea to incorporate kids, gardens and animals. Help your child to build a squirrel feeder using wood and a large nail to hold an ear of corn. Giving the squirrels their own feeding facilities will help keep them out of the birdfeeder, too.
