Kid Friendly Inexpensive Homemade Gift Giving Ideas

Do you need a couple ideas for inexpensive Christmas gifts? How about ideas for homemade Christmas gifts that the kids can help with? If so, I've got just what you're looking for. We all know that Christmas-time is an expensive time of the year, but it doesn't have to be; especially if you give homemade gifts to the people you love. Here are a couple ideas that even the kids can help with to get you started.

This first one I did with my kids last year and it was a hit with the relatives!

Pick up a few holiday sun catcher ornaments and some paint to paint them with. Let the kids paint them. Don't worry if the ornaments are completely unrecognizable when the kids are done painting them, that's what makes this gift so special. After the ornaments have been painted and have dried, flip them over and on the backside write the child's name that painted it and the year.

Then pick up a few cheap candy dishes (I went to the dollar store last year and found the cutest candy dishes with lids. They were clear plastic and had holiday designs on them and they were only $1.00!) If you know what everyone's favorite kind of candy is, fill the dishes with that kind of candy! If not, then just fill them with any kind.

Once the candy dishes are filled, string the ornaments onto a pretty ribbon and tie the ribbon around the top of the candy dish. (Just as an example, my three older girls painted enough ornaments that I could string one of each of the ornaments that they painted onto each ribbon.) Now all that's left to do is to wrap them up and you've got yourself an inexpensive, but thoughtful, homemade Christmas gift.

Another great idea for an inexpensive Christmas gift is to bake cookies. Again, this is something the kids can help with. Go to the dollar store and purchase a few cookie tins and fill them up with everyone's favorite kind of cookies. Then for a personal touch, help the kids make some creative holiday tags by just cutting out business-card-size pieces of paper and then decorate them with glitter and markers, write a holiday greeting on them or even a personal message to the receiver of the gift. Punch a hole in the holiday tag, string a decorative ribbon through it and tie it around the cookie tins. You could even put mistletoe, or bells, or those holiday sun catcher ornaments on the ribbon with the holiday tag to make it even more festive.

There are plenty of ways to make gift giving this holiday season a little easier on the pocketbook but hopefully these ideas will help get you started.
