Kid Friendly Restaurants in New York City

Finding a kid friendly restaurant in New York City may seem like an impossibility. The fast pace in New York City restaurant scene may not always lend itself well to kids, but if you take the time to look there are quite a few opportunities for children to really enjoy themselves and get a taste of what New York City has to offer. Here are some of my favorite kid friendly restuarnats in New York City.

Pig'N Out BBQ is one of those restaurants that just seems completely out of place in New York City, which might be what makes it a great kid friendly restaurant. The atmosphere at Pig'N Out BBQ is casual, comfortable, and definitely homey. Pig'N Out BBQ serves up Carolina pulled pork BBQ amidst the loud and busy New York City landscape. The menu consists of varieties of chicken, turkey, beef, ribs, and salads. They also have soups and sandwiches available. Their deceptively large menu belies the tiny dining room though. Orders come out quick though, so impatient kids won't have to wait too long. Best of all though BBQ is a great meal that people of all ages can enjoy. If you get a chance or you have an adventuresome kid try the sweet potato French fries. They are crispy on the outside and creamy and sweet on the inside. Ellen's Stardust is a fabulous1950's style diner that is a great New York City restaurant perfect for dinner out with the kids. Ellen's Stardust is located directly on Times Square, making it a centrally located restaurant perfect for a day out on the city with your kids. The staff is upbeat as well as talented. Show tunes are belted out with flare by the staff while they take your order. Noise and mayhem helps noisy kids blend right into the scenery. The huge menu at Ellen's Stardust is also very kid friendly. Traditional fare like chili, burgers, chicken fingers, and salads are easy to digest and won't have your kids saying "yuck" anymore than necessary. I personally thought the club sandwich was great and recommend a bowl of the chili if you are there on a cool or cold day. For a more special and fancy kid friendly restaurant check out Tuscan Square. While the atmosphere may seem a little more upscale than most children would prefer, I personally think there is no time like the present to teach your kids about the finer side of life. Especially how they should act when they visiting somewhere really nice. Tuscan Square is located in Rockefeller Center and is a great location for a special day spent all day with your kid. The staff is friendly, the décor is beautiful, and the menu is relatively appealing to a child. Upstairs at Tuscan Square is meant for the restaurant while downstairs you will find a wonderful bakery, espresso bar, and market place.
