Make an envelope book - This can be a very easy project for all children. All you need is construction paper, envelopes and glue. You can of course expand on it with stickers, crayons, ribbons, glue and so on. The pages will have places for you children to put all sorts of treasures in.
Take an even number of envelopes. I like to use six. Open them all up so the flaps are open. Line them up. Attaching them is very easy. Take the flap of one and stick it to the front of the next one. You may want to use a glue stick here to ensure your envelopes stay together.
Once your envelopes are all stuck together, fold them accordion style. Back and forth, so that you have hills and valleys. Now you have the pages for your book.
Next you will want to make your cover for your book. Cut out two sheets of construction paper slightly bigger than your envelope. On one side you will be attaching the construction paper to the flap of an envelope. On the other end you will be putting on the front of an envelope. You now have a very simple envelope book.
Now is the time to have your child's imagination take off. Not only can they decorate the outside, or covers, of their book, but they can fill the envelopes. They can put in notes, pictures, anything they can think of.
You can add special touches by tying their book closed with pretty ribbons or raffia. It may only take a few minutes to decorate the book. And you may think this is a short project for a rainy day. They could though spend hours decorating and filling the book with their treasures.
Making Cards
Since we already have the construction paper and clue out lets find another project. Making cards is great fun for kids. Break out the crayons, markers, stickers, stamps and ink. Grandparents love cards for any occasion, especially if their grandchild has made it. You can make cards for upcoming birthdays and holidays. Making cards now when they are stuck inside is a lot easier than trying to get them to come in when it is a gorgeous day outside.
Younger kids can color pictures and sign their name. Older children may enjoy thinking of a poem or rhyme to put in their cards. Your child's imagination may surprise you. They will come up with ideas that you will never think of. Let them and see where it takes you both. And who says you have to save them for a rainy day? Kids enjoy crafting anytime.
Rainy days can be filled with the echoes of I'm bored. Or you can create memories of wonderful days letting your child make things. These two projects are just the beginning of a list of ideas that come to mind. You and your child can come up with many more. See where a rainy day can lead you!

I no longer have kids around but had to see what the envelopes were for - I'll remember this for when my nephew visits.
I love these. I'm always looking for new things to do with my grandson. Thanks!
