Kid Rock Tour Bus Driver Arrested on DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) Charges

Say it Ain't So

Kay Whittenhauer
Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd played to a sold out crowd at Darien Lake, NY on July 14. It was a fantastic show, but since my husband and I wanted to beat the traffic, we left a little early.

We weren't the only ones. We ended up sitting in a line of traffic in the parking lot anyway, but it wasn't that bad. Once you got to the end of the parking lot, you had to make a right to get on the road.

There was a guy standing in the parking lot telling all the cars, "There's a road block ahead. You can pull to the left if you've been drinking." My husband was driving, and hadn't had a drop of alcohol, so we proceeded to the right.

Fast forward. I'm at work the next day and I hear on the radio that Kid Rock's tour bus driver was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). My first thought was, "Is that true?" My second thought was, "Oh, c'mon. That guy in the parking lot didn't say anything to The Bus?"

They weren't sure on the radio if it was true or not, so I searched Google. Sure enough, there it was in The Daily News Online and The Batavian. Kid Rock's bus driver was arrested, right on Route 77, at 1:58 am. He was remanded to Genesee County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Most people don't realize that Darien Lake is in the middle of nowhere. I'm talking miles and miles of cow pastures, then this huge amusement park springs up. For all intents and purposes, Route 77 is the only way in or out. (FYI: Here's how you get to Darien Lake: Get off the Thruway at Route 77. Go south on 77 until you see the giant roller-coaster. You're there. Oh, and if you don't stop at the Flyin' J when you get off the Thruway, it's a long way to Darien, if you know what I mean.)

So, with all that background, here's what I have to say to Kid Rock's bus driver: Hello? Didn't you think there might be roadblocks after a Kid Rock concert? Especially when not "all roads", but only one road leads to the venue?

Or, better yet: What are you doing drinking and driving? Especially since your job is driving. You, of all people, should know better.

I'm sure Kid Rock doesn't mind the publicity. Any publicity is good publicity as the saying goes. And I'm sure the bail is no big deal. Kid Rock probably has ten thou in his left shoe. But, c'mon now. Let's try to set the bar a little higher when it comes to the responsibility of celebrities and their entourage.

Like he really needed the publicity after his silly "reality" shows. Some 80s has beens should definitely remain in the past. Thanks for the info!

Thank God someone in the crowd wasn't killed by his drunk driving. I just have no tolerance for such irresponsibility. Good reporting.

I can only imagine the type of stories that this guy has to tell...

Good reporting. In some states it is Ok to drink and drive. The touchy part is the breathalizer testing when you are stopped to conform to standards.I think no drinking and driving which I have adopted for myself.
