One of the special guests at the show was Peter Wolf, former lead vocalists of the J Geils Band. He was in the band from 1967 - 1982. Him and Kid Rock played several songs from J Geils Band including a crowd favorite, Detroit Breakdown, Musta Got Lost, and Love Stinks. He is playing on select shows on the tour in February and March
The second special guests at the show was Dicey Betts, founding member for the Allman Brothers. He was the bands second lead guitarist. He rocked out on the guitar and they also played songs from the Allman Brothers such as Ramblin' Man. He is also just playing at select shows.
Rev Run from legendary rap group Run DMC is on the entire tour with Kid Rock. Many of you may have recently seen Rev Run on the MTV show Run's House. He added a lot of extra fun and entertainment to the show. Him and Kid Rock rapped together many Run DMC songs. These included, It's Tricky, Walk This Way, and King of Rock. Run DMC has always been a major influence on Kid Rock as well.
What made this concert a bit different from other Kid Rock shows I have seen is the fact their were no opening acts. The show was slated to start at 8 pm and it did. It was three straight hours of Kid Rock on stage. Granted, he wasn't playing all his music the entire time because he was singing songs that were from his specials guests original bands. There was even a brief intermission, which is funny, because when Kid Rock was on Larry King Live a few months back, he can be quoted telling Larry King that there is no intermission in rock shows. It was still a great show though. Kid Rock had the "So Hott Sisters" as backup vocals adding the sound of soul music to many of his songs. There were no pyrotechnics at this show either. It was a great show and there were plenty of songs from the past to the present for everyone to enjoy and sing along with.
One of the best parts of this show for me was the backstage after party. I went to this show with my cousin and she knows people who know people, so we got to go backstage. We went to the exclusive Olympia Club, located inside Joe Louis Arena. There were lost of people back there, most of them were either with the band or knew people who know people. Kid Rock showed up about an hour after we got there. He was all cleaned up and showered up. He mingled with people he knew, not really talking to those he didn't unless they approached him first. His sister was there as well. At one point during the night, Kid Rock was only about a foot and half away from us. We didn't want to bother him or embarrass ourselves, so we didn't go up and say hi. Dickey Betts mingled with the crowd and talked to many people. He approached my cousin and I and he was even nice enough to pose for several pictures with us. (We both couldn't wait to rub that in our parent's faces.) Other people who were in the crowd at the after party were local radio personality from WRIF, Screamin Scott Randall and Detroit Red Wings player Sergei Fedorov (who was just there briefly). It wasn't as crazy as I thought after parties usually were. Everyone was just sitting or standing around talking and having drinks. Although, I'm sure the crazier stuff goes on at the hotel parties. Overall, this was definitely a night to remember.
