Kid-Friendly Halloween Party Games & Snack Ideas

Halloween is a time for weird and spooky fun and Halloween is the first of the major holiday season. It's a great time for families to get together to create some fun and make memories. Here are some great kid-friendly Halloween games and snack ideas for any budget and age.

Salt Dough Letters & Numbers

Let each child make ghosts, goblins, pumpkins and witches. Each child can then decorate their creations and then take them home to have fun with. After the ghosts, goblins and witches have baked & cooled and the kids have decorated them then they can glue small magnets on the back of each one to take home to put on the refrigerator at home. Here is what you will need to create this fun & easy Halloween craft.

Salt Dough Recipe

10 oz water

10 oz salt

½ pint lukewarm water

1-tablespoon vegetable oil

Water based paints (Choose all the Halloween colors)

Glitter (your choice of colors)

Paintbrushes

Elmer's Glue

Small Round Magnets

Non-stick baking sheet

Rolling Pin

Pastry cutters in the shape of ghosts and goblins and witches

Mixing Bowl

Wooden Spoon

Place the salt into the mixing bowl and then add the water and mix thoroughly until the salt is dissolved completely. Add the flour and the oil and stir until the dough becomes stiff. Knead the dough with your hands until the dough becomes firm and then form the dough into a ball. Dust a kitchen counter with a little flour and then place the ball of dough on to this. Using the rolling pin, roll the dough out to the thickness of ½ inch. Place the ghosts and goblins cutters on top of the dough & push down each cutter firmly. Place each one onto the non-stick baking sheet. Bake in the oven at 210 degrees for one hour. Once the ghosts and goblins and witches become hard turn the oven off but do not remove them from the oven until they are cooled off completely. This will keep the salt from cracking the dough.

Pin The Head On The Skeleton

Draw a life size picture of a Skeleton and hang on a wall. Make a big Skeleton head out of construction paper to pin on to the body. Use a piece of tacky stuff to pin the head on to the skeleton's body.

Eyeball Gumball Count

Fill a see through plastic bowl up with Halloween Eyeball gumballs and let each guest guess how many there are. The guest that is the closest wins the gumballs.

Bowling

Use a small plastic orange ball to use for the bowling ball, and use empty 16-ounce water bottles decorated with Halloween stickers.

Musical Chairs

Arrange 5 child size plastic chairs in a circle. Each guest stands in a circle around the chairs and start a Halloween music cd playing and stop it all of a sudden. The kids grab an empty seat & the ones that are left standing are out of the game. Remove one chair and start the cd playing again. Continue stopping cd, restarting and removing chairs until one chair remains. The child that is sitting in the last chair that remains wins the prize, which can be a huge stuffed pumpkin.

Create You Own Cupcake

Bake the cupcakes according to directions and then fill bowls with black icing, orange icing and yellow icing. Fill small plastic bowls with m&m's, gummy worms, sprinkles, candy corn, candy pumpkins, black licorice strings and set all of this on the table. Let each guest ice their cupcakes & decorate as they wish.

Bucket of Bugs

Fill small plastic toy buckets with plain vanilla yogurt and add orange food coloring. Add gummy worms and spiders and crumble up oreo cookies on top of the bugs to look like dirt. Mix this all together.

Graveyard Cupcakes

Use a Betty Crocker Orange flavored cake to make the cupcakes and after the cupcakes have cooled place them onto a piece of cardboard and then frost the cupcakes with either black colored icing or orange icing. Crush up Oreo Cookies and then sprinkle the crumbs on top of each cupcake and be sure to cover the cupcake enough where none of the frosting shows if you use white frosting. Next take a piece of a graham cracker and stick down into each cupcake. These will be the tombstones. You can use a tube of black icing and write R.I.P. on each tombstone before you insert them into the cupcake. Next, take a pastry bag that does not have a tip on it and put blobs of cool whip on top of the graveyard and then put two raisins in each blob of cool whip to be the eyes of all the ghosts.

Cracker Spiders

For each spider you make you will need two round Town House Crackers and two teaspoons of peanut butter. After you smooth the peanut onto one cracker place the other cracker on top, insert black licorice strings into the peanut butter for the legs. You will need eight black licorice strings for each spider. Place the eyes on top of each cracker with a dab of peanut butter. Use two mini black M&M's for the spider's eyes.

It's The Great Pumpkin Patch

Items needed

Mini Pumpkins (smaller ones work best)

1 Package Brach's Candy Pumpkins

Strawberry Yogurt

Fresh Strawberries

Mint Sprigs

Shredded Lettuce

Pumpkin Shaped Serving Tray

Plastic Drinking Cups (3 ounce size) Optional

Fill each cup up to the top with the yogurt. Make a small hole in the top of each strawberry by using a toothpick and then place one sprig of fresh mint into the hole. Set the strawberry on top of the yogurt. Cut the top off of each pumpkin and remove the filling. Place each cup of yogurt down inside of a mini pumpkin. Sprinkle the bag of shredded lettuce onto the serving tray to resemble the grass. Set each pumpkin on top of the lettuce and then chill until ready to serve. Instead of using the plastic cups, just spoon the yogurt into each mini pumpkin and then arrange the candy pumpkins in the grass (lettuce). This will make the finished pumpkin patch look more real.
