Kids Activity: How to Make Stickers

Pam Freer
Kids love stickers. They get them at the doctor's office, the dentist, and from teachers. Give a kid a package of stickers and it will keep him busy for a while. You can buy stickers at variety stores, pharmacies, grocery stores, and big chain stores. Most stickers today are the peel and stick kind. They are fun and easy to use.

The kids activity for today is for making your own home made stickers. These are the old fashioned type that you lick and stick. Use your imagination and make any size, shape, or design sticker you want. If you are having a party with a special theme, you can make stickers to match. Better yet, have the kids make their own home made stickers at the party. This kids activity will keep them busy for a while.

To begin with you will need: hot water, flavored gelatin, and pictures to make stickers. It's a good idea to have a variety of pictures ready before you begin. You can use old picture books, magazines, calendars, or even photographs for your home made stickers.

Put 2 tablespoons of flavored gelatin in a small bowl. Add ΒΌ cup of hot water and stir until blended. Carefully cut your pictures out. They can be as big or small as you want. Set the pictures face down on a piece of wax paper. Brush the gelatin mixture onto the back of each picture. You can use a small paint brush, a cotton swab, or even your finger. Be careful ~ a little bit goes a long way ~ just a thin coating of the gelatin mixture will do. Allow the home made stickers to dry for at least a half an hour. Touch them lightly with your finger to be sure they are completely dry.

When your home made stickers are dry, they can be stored in a small airtight container or a plastic bag. Be careful not to let the stickers get moist or they will all stick together. High humidity will also cause them to stick together.

To use the home made stickers from this kids activity, just lick and stick! Besides being fun, it tastes good too!

These home made stickers are fun to make and fun to give. If you want to make a sticker book, just staple several sheets of computer or construction paper together to make this kids activity even more fun! Using crayons or markers, you can create a personal sticker book with your favorite home made stickers.
