Sponge Bob
Come on, now! What could be a better theme for a child's bathroom than Sponge Bob?? After all, Sponge Bob, his pal Patrick, and all of their comrades live in the sea, as in under water. Given this, it's not surprising that there are lots of great nautical-themed items sporting the Sponge Bob crew available for children's bathrooms. From shower curtains to bath mats to tooth brush holders to actual bathroom fixtures, you can go just about as far with Sponge Bob in the bathroom as your imagination and budget will allow. There are even towels, flooring, and wallpaper to finish off the theme. Most kids will absolutely love this idea, and the appeal of Sponge Bob works on a lot of levels, meaning that your children are likely to stick with this theme for a few years.
Superheroes
If Sponge Bob's flippancy grates on you as a parent (at least it's not Barney!), you might want to steer your child toward a more traditional theme for his bathroom, and a superhero focus fits the bill nicely. Everyone knows that cleanliness is next to Spidey-ness, and Superman's gleaming smile is sure to inspire some serious dental hygiene. The drawback to pursuing a superhero in the bathroom is that your choices might be somewhat limited at any given time. Unlike Sponge Bob, superheroes generally only share their merchandise when they have movie coming out, so you might have to be flexible in choosing an exact theme here.
Dora/Diego
Dora and Diego are everyone's favorite adventuring cousins, so most kids would be happy to head into the bathroom jungle accompanied by one of these characters. As in the case of Sponge Bob, Dora and Diego merchandise is readily available, so it should be relatively easy to find something acceptable. If you go this route, just beware of the wild animals crouching in the weeds when you visit your child's bathroom!
There you have them ... three ideas for making over your child's bathroom, one of which is sure to appeal to even the choosiest of youngsters. Involve your son or daughter in the decision, and you may be pleasantly surprised when he or she helps in carrying out the remodeling plan, too! Just be prepared for some possessiveness when it comes to the new "child cave" once it's completed!
