A polka dot party is easy to plan. Once you get thinking in circles, you'll be surprised at how many things you can think of. To begin with, you need to send out invitations. Have the birthday boy or girl help out with the party invitations. If you're handy on the computer, you can make birthday invitations with polka dots all over them. Or, you could make the invitations by hand, and draw polka dots all over the front. Inside, be sure to list the date, time, and place of the birthday party. Add a note that everyone should wear polka dot clothes. Your guests will start having fun even before they arrive!
Depending on your available time and budget, you can go two different routes. You can head out to the store, keeping the polka dot birthday theme in mind. You'll be surprised how many polka dot items you can find. If you plan ahead, you can order polka dot party supplies on-line. If your budget is more limited and you have enough time, you can make polka dot items yourself. Buy a bright vinyl or plastic table cloth and use bright permanent markers to make polka dots all over it. Blow up round balloons in a variety of colors. Cut bright circles out of construction paper and tape them to the outside door, and all around the house.
For food, think polka dots. Walk down the candy aisle of any store, and you'll find bags and bags of colorful small circle candies. Frost the cake in a bright color, and make colorful circles all over it. You can use a zipper type bag, fill it up with bright frosting, cut a corner off, and squeeze away. In no time, you'll have a beautiful polka dot cake. If you're not that clever, buy polka dot sprinkles for the cake. Cup cakes would be a bit hit, too. Just frost the cupcakes in a variety of bright colors, and place them on a big round serving dish. Soften the ice cream a little, stir small candies or sprinkles in, and refreeze. When you scoop it out, you'll have polka dot ice cream.
When you plan the games, think polka dots. A hop-scotch board can be made out of big, bright circles. Instead of dropping clothespins into a bottle, drop small round candies into a round bowl. Musical chairs can be changed into musical dots. Take any game you know, and change it into polka dots.
Gifts can be wrapped in polka dot paper. Again, if you can't find what you want at the store, make your own. It's amazing what you can do with a pair of scissors, and some brightly colored paper.
Using a polka dot theme for your kid's birthday party is really easy...and really fun. Your guests are sure to be impressed. Happy polka dot party!
