Kid's Crafts: Fun with Kool Aid

Get the Kool Aid Out and Get Ready to Play!

Melissa B
As a parent myself, I'm often looking for fun crafts, hands on projects and activities that are cheap, keep my kids attention and best yet, with ingredients found in my home. I decided to see what fun ideas I could come up with using good old Kool Aid. Especially since I don't like to actually make Kool Aid as a juice mix, it's too sugary and it makes my kids get very hyper!

So I searched the Internet to see what great and fun things I can do with my kids with kool aid and was surprised at how many great activities there are! So enjoy these two top rated fun filled activities with your children and a few packs of Kool Aid!

Kool Aid Finger Paint

You Will Need:
2 Cups Of Flour
2 Packets of Unsweetened Kool Aid
1/2 Cup of Salt
3 Cups of Boiling Water
3 T. Of Oil

What To Do To Make The Kool Aid Finger Paint: You will want to mix all of these ingredients in a large bowl, making sure all wet and dry ingredients are mixed well. Watch the color deepen as you mix it all up and get ready to paint!

Review: This is a great idea for kids, this recipe yeilds a lot of finger paint, so it's perefct for a family activity, or even daycare/playgroup activity. It seems that you could divivde the recipe in half, to make less paint, or even double for larger groups of children. As we all know, Kool Aid stains, so wear clothes that you are okay with getting a little messy, and protect whatever work area you use.

Kool Aid comes in different colors, so perhaps dividing the ingedients in half and only using 1 packet in each mix will allow you to get at least 2 colors out of the same amount of ingredients. Happy Painting!

Edible Kool Aid Play Dough

What You Will Need:
1 Cup Of Sifted Flour
1/2 Cup Of Salt
3 Tablespoons Of Cream Of Tarter
1 Tablespoon Of Cooking Oil
1 Package Of Unsweetened Kool Aid Mix (any flavor)

What To Do To Make The Kool Aid Play Dough: In a medium to large saucepan, mix all dry ingredients together (before turning heat on) Slowly add the water and oil to the mixture and turn on medium heat. You will need to stir the mixture until it becuase thick and dough like. Remove mixture from heat and place on a large cutting board and knead until mixture it cool. This mixture is said to have a shelf life of up to 6 months in the refreigerator, as long as it's stored in an air tight container.

Review: If finger painting isn't your thing, play dough is certainly a slightly less (although still expect stained hands) messy. It can be fun to put this dough into many diofferent shapes and get you and your kids together for a fun activity and some great family fun. Although the dough is edible, the tatse is certainly not as good as it smells! It's not really meant to be eaten, but rather a percaution for parents of toddlers who want somethiong that IF it is eaten, is not poisonus or harmful, no it's much like "non-toxic" play dough, but with everyday real ingredients!

These are just two great fun kraft ideas I found for using Kool Aid in, there are many more and I intend on finding them all and trying them out, and writing about it too!
