Kids Crafts for Kids Birthday Party Invitations for Under $5

Pam Gaulin
My son and I just finished making birthday party invitations for his second birthday party. I was astonished at the price of pre-made invitations. I have always made my own greeting cards, rather than pay $3-$6 per card, so I decided that together we could make the invitations for his birthday party.

This is how we made the kids birthday party invitations for under $5. (Postage not included).

Materials Needed

one package of six Paperbilities greeting cards and envelopes ($1.88) - Two packages may be needed. The more invitations you need, the more it will cost. Defray some of the cost of birthday party invitations by cutting and folding some of your own invitations.

two glue sticks (50 cents or less if bought in a package) - One glue stick with be for the birthday boy or birthday girl and one will be for a helper (you?).

Disney Color paint squares with Mickey Mouse image from Home Depot (free) - one or more per invitation - The next time you go to Home Depot, collect some Disney Color paint squares to use in kids birthday party invitations or for other kids' crafts. Take some extra to make different designs, or in case one tears.

The paint squares come with a silhouette of Mickey Mouse's head in a fun and bright color. Pick a variety of colors, or stick with theme colors.

one child with an upcoming birthday (priceless)

Prepare the Materials for this Kids Crafts

The first thing a parent or older child needs to do in preparation for this kids crafts is to peel the Mickey Mouse head silhouette from the backing. This is optional. You could use the entire paint square on the card, if you want to include the paint name.

Carefully lift up one of the ears and begin peeling the colorful mouse silhouette. Try to peel some of the backing with the silhouette. Peel from ear, to the head.

Tip:Be careful when you reach the second ear, as this is where a tear could occur.

Open the package of envelopes and cards, separating the cards from the envelopes.

Or, measure and cut paper to make your own invitations for the kids birthday party invitations kids craft.

Set out the peeled mouse silhouettes, the glue, and the blank birthday party invitations on a work surface or kid-sized arts and crafts table.

Invite the Birthday Child to Make the Kids Birthday Party Invitations Kids Crafts

A child turning two will need some help with the glue stick. Help them by rubbing the glue on the back of the mouse. Be careful so it does not tear. Hand the mouse silhouette to the child and show them how to place it on the paper.

The other option is to let the young toddler glue the birthday party invitation and then stick the mouse silhouette decorations on the card.

Let the child place one or more mouse silhouettes, in different directions on the invitation.

Older children can do all of the gluing themselves.

Print out pertinent party invitation, and glue it inside.

On the back of the card, write "Made by insert child's name.

Now you have kids birthday party invitations that you made with a kids craft idea for under $5.
