Here is a great suggestion for an afternoon family outing:

Northlandz, the Great American Railway, is an indoor train display located in Flemington, New Jersey. Bruce Zaccagnino and his wife, Jean, are the creators behind Northlandz. Starting in his basement in 1972, his passion for trains and scenery eventually led to his 16 acre attraction. You will walk through this mile long museum following the paths and see up to 100 trains running daily throughout the display covering 8 miles of track. Discover mountainside and valleys, waterfalls and streams. Here the sound of an on-coming train and watch as it crosses one of the 400 bridges within the display. The longest bridge is 400 feet, the highest mountain is 35 feet and over 4,000 buildings to look at. Admire the trees and colors - over 500,000 of those. Look above you, look below you, something is always going on around you. See mini cities, mining towns, graveyards, landscapes beyond your imagination. Sorry, but you cannot touch!

As you walk along the path you'll see over 250 paintings displayed for your viewing pleasure. The Doll Museum features over 200 collectible dolls from all around the world, see La Peep Doll House, a 94 room mansion - a must see for all doll house collectors! Take a break and sit in the 500 seat theater where you'll see a 2,000 pipe organ prominently displayed in the center of the room. Check times to hear the organists play for you. All this is included in the tour.

Hungry? Visit the Club Car Cafe for Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs, snacks, cookies, hot drinks, cold drinks, ice cream and more.

Before you leave take a little relaxing ride on the outdoor steam engine train as it travels through tunnels and over bridges right outside the museum. Although the museum is open year round, check run times for the train.

How long will it take you to walk through this museum? Well, it depends on how captivated you are. Northlandz suggests an hour. However, feel free to take your time. The avid train enthusiast could take longer. Much longer, especially if you happen to run into another train collector.....
