Kids Who Kid - a Rhyme to Sully Those Who Bully

Linda Ann Nickerson

Before a child knows A-B-Cs,
He certainly has learned to tease.
He'll jab and jeer and joke and jest;
He has to prove that he's the best.

We mock your face;
We slam your clothes;
We taunt your talk;
We nag your nose.
If you should balk
At our low blows,
We're only kidding,
Don't you know?

For ever since the child was born
Adults have treated him with scorn,
Each difference loudly pointed out
Until they filled his heart with doubt.

We mock your face;
We slam your clothes;
We taunt your talk;
We nag your nose.
If you should balk
At our low blows,
We're only kidding,
Don't you know?

With acid words and sarcasm,
He ridicules enthusiasm,
Emulating those he knows
And maiming friends with verbal blows.

We mock your face;
We slam your clothes;
We taunt your talk;
We nag your nose.
If you should balk
At our low blows,
We're only kidding,
Don't you know?
