Step 1 for creating a safari theme bedroom: Paint the walls of the room light blue. Pick a color that is reminiscent of the sky that is not too bright. The color should be soft and calming.
Step 2 for creating a safari theme bedroom: Draw very large, simple leaves on the wall, the leaves should cover the lower 1/3 to ½ of the bedroom wall. The leaves do not have to be perfect, so don't worry about being a perfectionist. Paint these leaves green and outline them with a slightly darker shade of green. (You can add a little black paint to your original green paint to make the outline color.
Step 3 for creating a safari theme bedroom: Purchase hanging plant hooks and hang spider plants and other plants that hang well around the room and in front of the window. They will make the jungle look of the room more realistic. Purchase a few floor plants as well if it is age appropriate. (Don't forget to water the plants.)
Step 4 for creating a safari theme bedroom: You have several options for bedding and window treatments your safari themed bedroom. You can purchase a set with an animal theme, a bamboo design, or bedding in natural, neutral colors. For window treatments you can use bamboos shades, and you may also want to use a bamboo area rug as well. Purchase sheets in solid green and blue colors to match the wall colors.
Step 5 for creating a safari theme bedroom. Look for animal themed artwork. This can be as cheap or expensive as your budget allows. If in a pinch, purchase a jungle wall calendar and frame the pictures. Also add lots of jungle (stuffed) animals to the bedroom. Add a mosquito net tent to the bed for an authentic safari feature (if age appropriate).
Additional suggestions for a safari themed bedroom:
If your mural skills are mediocre to good, add some painted animals to the wall.
If you don't want to attempt the mural just paint the wall blue and add framed jungle themed prints to the wall.
Purchase a rainforest sounds CD that will help your child fall asleep as well as go with the theme of the room.
