Kids and Seatbelts

Miss Amber
I was driving on the interstate on my way to work today. I have an hour commute to work so I have a lot of time to pay attention to my surroundings. Well I was behind this white Chevy Suburban and driving about 75 mph hour. I noticed that there was a child, maybe around the age of 8, jumping up and down in his seat for at least 10 minutes. Now why did not mother or father stop this child from freely jumping up and down in his seat? Obviously he was not wearing a seat belt cuz this kid was jumping so high that his head was almost touching the ceiling! Now the speed limit on this interstate is 65 mph and I was being this person driving 75 mph and so they were going at least 75 if not a little more. How would this parent feel if they got in an accident and the child flew out of the front windshield and died??? This parent was probably thinking that they are the perfect driver and that they will not get in an accident. Even if they are a good driver do they not realize that their are other drivers on the road that are not perfect drivers. For example : me. Yes, me. I am not the greatest driver in the world. I do speed, I have been known to talk on the phone while driving (yes, I know, thats not good to do), I am a woman and I have heard many men say "Damn women drivers!" and I am also tired when I am driving. I just think that parents should MAKE their children wear seat belts. I was really wishing that there was a cop that saw this child activily flailing around in his seat and pulled this parent over. It is one thing for an adult to decide not to wear a seat belt.....that is their own conscious decision, and yes an 8 year old can make a decision too, but they are 8 years old and need to learn to be responsible and it is the parents job to do it.

When not studying for school or working long boring dreadful hours, I like to write, take pictures, make random funny little videos or just sleep.  View profile

I don't even start the car until the kids are buckled in- their safety first, always. A parent who does not buckle in their child is not showing proper care for their children- who knows what else they let their poor kids get away with?
