Kids Are so Much Smarter Than We Think

My grandaughter Taylor is 6 years old. She and her sister Aubrey live in the townhouse next door. Their parents both work nights, so I have been taking care of them since they were both babies. For four years now Taylors favorite treat when she comes over is Little Debbie fudge round snack cakes. Before she could talk, she would ask for them by making a circle in the air with her finger and then making lines through the circle. When taylor got older she still didn't call them fudge rounds, to her they were circle and stripes.

When Aubrey reached the age of two and could start eating them. She played with them more than she ate them, and would leave a real mess. I started giving her gummies for her special snack. So they would come over Taylor would get her circle and stripe and Aubrey would get her gummies. That didn't last long though, around the same time Aubrey could talk, she started wanting whatever Taylor was having. Now whenever Taylor asked for a circle and stripe, Aubrey would say she " I want a stripe too ". I started leaving Taylor a circle and stripes on the kitchen counter, and send her there to eat it, while I kept Aubrey busy in another room.

I guess after a few weeks Taylor got tired of hiding in the kitchen to eat her circle an stipes. They hadn't been here long one afternoon, when Taylor said " Grandma, can I have a C.S. ? " She is just too smart for her britches. This past weekend I helped her make a Happy Box. She can write but wanted me to write " Taylors Happy Box " on the lid. After I wrote it she said. " Grandma aren't you gonna put the exclaimation mark "? Most the time I don't where to put them.
