Kids Sports Can Be Dangerously Funny

My son has always been quite big for his age and with that came strength and power. He quickly got the nickname "the boot" from his soccer team.

One hot summer day at the soccer fields. The kids were all running around playing soccer as usual. My son 's team was losing and the coach was trying to get them pumped up. He did his pats on the back and yelled out their names when they did something good.

Our team was having some trouble keeping the ball. They couldn't seem to get it down to the right goal. So the coach decided to put my son in to get it down the field. Sure enough he joined the game and booted the ball right down the middle of the field. Just then, a boy from my son's team ran out and looked up to see where the ball was.
Instantaneously the ball hit the boy right between the eyes. The boy fell over in slow motion and remained on the ground causing a giant pile up of boys in the center of the soccer field. My son saw what happened cried and ran off the field saying he was never going to play soccer again.

The boy was fine other than a bump on the head and broken eyeglasses and there were no other injuries to speak of, but my son felt awful and it took quite a bit of encouragement to get him back in the game.

After the game was over the team laughed about it and my son offered to buy his teammate new glasses. Since then everyone still knows him as "the boot" and laughs about that game.
