Kids' Thanksgiving Jokes

Thanksgiving Jokes Help Kids and Adults

Barbara Lee Norris
Do you know that humor is tremendously beneficial to kids? So says Paul E. McGhee, PH.D, a pioneer in humor research. He says kids have a built-in ability to practice newly developed physical and mental skills through the use of humor. Their jokes are a form of intellectual play--a play with ideas. In other words, kids' humor should be encouraged!

Humor is also as important to Thanksgiving as turkey and all the trimmings. It's good for the kids, as well as the adults, and can make the day memorable for years to come. Humor--

Helps Reduce Stress

Sometimes making kids and adults feel comfortable takes a bit of finesse. The use of humor is a powerful antidote for stress. It gives people of all ages the opportunity to relax, to "be in the spotlight" and to make others laugh.

Unifies People of Different Ages

Humor bridges the old and the young. It gives kids an opportunity to shine. Older guests prove to the young that they have personality, too!

Models Social Skills for Kids

Kids participate in word play and conversation with people of all ages. Humor helps kids further develop important social skills--all while having fun!

Occupies Time Away from the Table

There's nothing better than the aroma of a roasting turkey and a houseful of people talking and laughing. A Thanksgiving celebration without humor would be as dreadful as an under-done turkey!!

Reflects Well the Day

The best memories are born from humor. How many family celebrations are remembered because of the funny things that happened? Humor makes a long-lasting, positive imprint on people's minds.

The Turkey Popped Out of the Oven

by Jack Prelutsky

The turkey popped out of the oven

and rocketed into the air;

It knocked every plate off the table

and partly demolished a chair.

It ricocheted into a corner

and burst with a deafening boom,

Then splattered all over the kitchen,

completely obscuring the room.

It stuck to the walls and the windows,

It totally coated the floor.

There was turkey attached to the ceiling,

Where there had never been

turkey before.

It blanketed every appliance,

It smeared every saucer and bowl;

there wasn't a way I could stop it;

that turkey was out of control.

I scraped and I scraped with

displeasure

and thought with chagrin as I

mopped,

that I would never again stuff a turkey,

with popcorn that hadn't been popped!
