Kids Too Old for Easter Baskets? Make a Family Easter Tray

Create an Easter Display the Entire Family Can Enjoy

Do your children think they're too old for an Easter basket? Using a tray to make an Easter display for the family is an easy solution.

Supplies Needed to Make an Easter Tray Display

Breakfast tray, cardboard or box lid
Chocolate bunnies, other Easter candy, small toys or trinkets
Easter grass

To make an Easter tray, you'll need the same basic supplies that you would to make a traditional Easter basket except that you'll be using a larger, flat surface in place of the basket. A breakfast or serving tray that has slightly upturned sides is a good choice, but a cookie sheet or sturdy piece of cardboard will work as well.

You can also recycle the lid of a box to hold your Easter candy and other goodies. Either leave the lid plain (the inside will be covered by the grass) or decorate the sides with colored paper or holiday stickers.

You'll need Easter grass to line your tray and to keep candy from rolling around. Use traditional store-bought Easter grass or make your own eco-friendly Easter grass by shredding newspaper (newspaper ink is non-toxic). While green is good, don't use real grass.

After lining your tray of choice with Easter grass, position the largest items on the tray first. If you have a large chocolate bunny for each child or family member, stand them in the grass then scatter the rest of the candy randomly around the tray. If you use plastic eggs to hide small items, use a different color egg for each family member. Since they won't be getting individual baskets, you'll want to make sure that each child gets the same amount of goodies and those that are appropriate for their age and gender.

Set up your Easter tray early with Easter decorations - ceramic bunnies and chicks, stuffed rabbits, decorative eggs - and enjoy the display for a longer period than just Easter Sunday. Have the Easter Bunny add candy or any perishables (and surprises!) the night before or Easter morning.

Arrange an Easter Lily with your Easter tray and you have a beautiful centerpiece for your dining room table at Easter.

I've not heard of this Easter tray idea. I guess one could also use a simple plate as a centerpiece and arrange items like you suggested. Good article.

I don't know what I'll do when my kids don't miss Easter Baskets, but this is good for promoting the "taste" of Easter anyway.
